Chapter 22

"How much is this necklace? Is it expensive?" I asked Thomas while we're walking from school. We stayed at school until 5:00 because of the practice.

The air was cool. Winter is almost here, since it's already December. I saw leaves falling down from trees. Good thing I wore a jacket.

"The price doesn't matter. The value does," is what he just said. I nodded.

"I'm excited for the play!" I stated.

Then there was comfortable silence. I looked at Thomas. He seemed to be in deep thought. He's thinking of something I don't need to know about. Or I need to. Oh well, I'd just let him be that way.

Then we reached our homes. I poked him on the cheek. He blinked a few times and looked at me. I gave him a quick hug.

"Thanks for the gift . See you tomorrow." I simply said and went inside my house.

*Day of the play...*

"I'm nervous guys." I told my friends. I was expecting myself to be excited, but I was wrong. I was wearing a blue longsleeved top and sweatpants with dirt in it. That was the costume.

Ana rubbed my back gently. "It will be fine Bella. You practiced long enough for it."

"Yeah she's right Bells," Lexi added then wrapped her fingers around the locket on the necklace I'm wearing. "Where did you get this?"

"Thomas gave this to me yesterday, as a birthday gift," I said simply.

"Really?! Oh my gosh you're so lucky, girl! This necklace is beautiful!" Lexi exclaimed.

I laughed at her reaction. "It's a friendly gift from him. Just a friendly gift," I thought.

Then it was time for the presentation of the play. Here are some of the lines:

Gally: Day one, greenie. Rise and shine.

Thomas: What is this place?
  Alby: Welcome to the glade.

Newt: It's the maze. Every morning when those doors open, the runners look for a way out. And no one has ever survived in the night at the maze.
Thomas: What happens to them?
Newt: Well we call 'em grievers.

Newt: (To the Gladers) It's a girl.
Teresa: (Stirs and wakes up) Thomas!

Teresa: (To Thomas) What if were sent here for a reason?

Teresa: They're gonna keep coming back until they kill us all.

Gally: (To Thomas) Everything started changing the moment you showed up.

Alby: (To Thomas) You're different from everyone else. You're curious.

Minho: (To Thomas) This is the first real clue in finding.

When it was my part, I acted with feelings. We all did our best.

The audience clapped loudly. They liked it. We all took a bow on the stage.

"That was good Bella!" James told me. The girls hugged me.

"Let's go eat!" Ana suggested.

"You guys go ahead. I'm gonna get something," I told them and they went outside the theater room.

I put my things in my bag. I took my bag and went to the backstage to congratulate everyone for the play.

I went to Thomas. "We did great!" he said and we hi-fived.
