Chapter Twenty Nine-There’s This Thing Called KNOCKING
“You’re going too?” I asked Sherri.
She gave me a look. “Well, duh?”
I blinked. I didn’t know Sherri was also going to Cam’s party tonight, up until now. We were just depositing stuff in out lockers when she told me what I was going to wear for the party, and I found out she was coming as well. Which was, well, weird.
“Would Dexter be there too?”
“Would I be where too?” A voice from behind us made us turn.
“Hey, Dexter,” we both said at the same time.
“Shea was just asking if you were coming to Cam’s party,” Sherri told him.
He thought about it. “Are you coming?” Sherri nodded. “Cool. Then I guess I’ll go?”
I rolled my eyes just as Sherri cooed, “Awww.”
Ugh. Couples. Then again, I have a boyfriend now too. But hey, at least we weren’t—I checked Sherri and Dexter—who were looking at each other eye to eye as if nothing else was around them. I just shut my locker close before facing them again.
“Sooo,” I rudely interrupted, because otherwise, they’d end up looking into each other’s eyes forever.
“So.” Sherri cleared her throat. “I’ll just see at the party, Dex?”
I tried not to say Dex? out loud.
“I could pick you up if you want to.”
Sherri shook her head. “I'm staying at Shea’s.” Wow. That was news to me. I mean, she could have at least told me that she was planning to stay my house. Oh well. “And I’ll probably get a ride with them. So, I’ll see you around?”
Dexter nodded, smiling a bit as he replied, “Yep. Sounds cool.”
We, all three of us, started to walk towards the double doors of the school building (which served as both entrance and exit, by the way). We ended up talking about the Calculus assignment until we reached the parking lot. Dexter’s car was nearer (he drove her to and from school now) so they went ahead first, asking me if I needed I ride. I didn’t, I said, so they drove away to the sunset.
And of course, when I reached the part where I parked my car—it wasn’t there. Yeah. Great.
I remembered it was Jake’s turn to drive and obviously, he already left. Me. Alone. I couldn’t believe it. He left me just like that? What the bloody hell is wrong with him? Muttering curses under my breath (which, by the way, is ironic because I was trying to calm down), I closed my eyes and ran my fingers through my hair.
