The next day, I tried to avoid Luke. It worked. He tried to come to me during lunch break but I avoided him. Unfortunately, on Wednesday, I had to talk to him. Normally, he would come over to my place to finish our project. “Charlotte! Please, wait a sec.” He shouted to me. I did stop walking. “Finally. Why have you been avoiding me?” “It’s weird Luke. There are gossips going around school. Everyone thinks I’m the bitch because you dumped Lauren, and stuff.” “That’s so not true. Who said that?” “You can guess…” “Of course, Lauren herself. Ignore it, Charlie. We’re just really good friends. People can think whatever they want. We know the truth.” “Thanks Luke, for defending me.” “No problem. So, is it still okay that I come to your place this afternoon?” “Yep. No problem.” “Cool. I guess I’ll see you in class them. I should go now. I promised Calum to help him with something so…” “Yeah, sure.”

The day went by so slowly. Luckily it was only a half day school. Luke was waiting for me outside school, talking to Ashton, sitting on the stairs in front of school. He got up immediately when he saw me. “I’ll see you tomorrow, Luke. Bye Charlotte!” Ashton smiled to me and left. Wow, he was being nice to me. “Bye Ashton.” “Ready to go?” Luke asked. “Yep, I am.” “Show me the way cuz I have no clue where you live.” We walked home. It’s not that far away. Like 20 minutes, maybe. “I think it’s really cool for a girl to skateboard, you know.” Luke said, totally out of nowhere. “Ha… Thanks. Not everyone thinks about it like that.”

Luke’s face when he saw my house. “You nearly live on the beach. That’s amazing!” “I know, right.” I smiled. “I’m jealous.” He followed me inside the house. I was home alone. Fynn was over to friends of his class. Luke and I worked on the project  for the entire afternoon, till my parents and Fynn came home. “Good evening mister Sierra.” Luke smiled and held out his hand to my dad. “Good evening, young man. And you are…?” “Luke Hemmings. Class mate of Charlotte.” “Nice to meet you.”

“Luke, are you staying here for dinner?” My mum asked. “Mum, I was thinking about going to Ricardo’s. Please?” I begged. “Fine, just for one time.” “Thank you. Come on, let’s go.” I smiled, and dragged Luke with me. “Where are we going? Who is Ricardo?” “Ricardo’s is the best Italian restaurant around here. Let’s get us a pizza.” “Ow. Yeah sure.” “Or do you need to go home?” “No, no, my parents know I’m out. And it’s only 6PM.”

We didn’t eat the pizza over there. We just ordered it and decided to eat it down at the beach. “Can I ask you something, Luke?” “Of course.” “Why are you doing this? Why are you being so nice to me? Before we had to work together, you had never said a word to me before.” “I don’t know. I wanted to but I just never did. I don’t know why. But you know, I’m glad you’re my partner for this project. It’s really nice working with you.”
