The kiss kept me up all night, lingering in my mind as if it were engraved. I could not stop thinking about it. The way his lips felt and the way they molded to mine as if both our mouths were meant to be together. But, now it was Monday morning and I was suddenly realizing having an accidental kiss with your teacher was not ideal when you had to see him the next day.
I tried not to let it bother me, but even Katherine and Bryin noticed my discomfort. They attempted to console me and get me to tell them what had happened during the car ride to school. However, I remained quiet and gave baseless excuses. They obviously could not find out, mosty if Mr. Yoi and I became something more. I could only hope, though...
"Have a nice day, Mos. We love you," Katherine said as I exited the family car and I smiled back at her and Bryin. She handed me my lunchbag before driving away.
"Mos, Mos, Mos, Mos, Mos!" I heard Terry giddily yell from behind me as he collided his body into mine outside of the school. We had gym first period and he was excited to see Mr. Papa Smoke, telling me all about what our teacher was wearing today. Soon, the bell rang and we entered the stone building.
As we were walking to the gymnasium after homeroom, Terry babbling away, I saw him from across the hallway and he saw me, too. Mr. Yoi was wearing navy trousers matched with a white button up shirt with navy polka dots and a shiny golden tie. He was celestial and completely beyond me. However, on that day, I could not muster the courage to continue looking into his orbs. A blush rose to my cheeks and I averted my eyes.
"Mr. Aedes, Mr. Sectum," was all he said when he passed by us. He did not look at us, but continued to look ahead of himself instead.
"What was that about?" Terry asked. He unwrapped a piece of gum and began to chew it, checking his breath periodically as we closed in on the gym and Mr. Papa Smoke. I considered not telling Terry, knowing he would be dramatic and theatrical about what happened. But, I realized, maybe what happened was dramatic and theatrical. I would even consider it magical.
"Well, at the talent show... when I went back to the dressing room, we accidentally bumped and, well, kissed," I said quietly."No way! Mos! Why didn't you tell me this earlier?" Terry responded, checking his breath again.
"I was going to tell you after it happened, but then we went to dinner."
"And afterwards?"
"I guess I was just distracted... or something." I looked down at my hands and twiddled my thumbs together. "I know I should've told you earlier, but it seemed like it didn't even happen," I continued as we walked into the locker room. "It only lasted for a second, anyways." Multiple boys from our class were already changing into their gym uniforms. No one spared us a glance as Terry and I walked to the back of the room where no one else was.
"It's okay, Mos!" Terry assured me as he slipped out of his skirt and into his micro shorts. "You don't have to tell me anything if it makes you uncomfortable." I felt bad that I did not tell Terry, despite his assurance it was alright. However, I did not say anymore as I got changed as well.
During gym class, we played badminton. Terry and I played together as I felt Richie glaring at me from across the room. I was slightly worried a birdie was going to come from his direction and nail me in the head.
I did not pay much attention to the game and missed the birdie multiple times. However, the time passed quickly and eventually the bell rang to signal the end of class. Terry had to get to class across campus, so he left before I did. I had Calculus next and began to wonder if I had done my homework.
"Aedes, can I speak to you?" I heard Mr. Papa Smoke say. Was I in trouble? Despite my worry, I nodded and followed him into his office. The walls were lined with trophies and in the middle of them all was his Gucci Ball. As it was his most prized possession, it seemed to shine brighter than the rest of his trophies. I wondered if he polished it regularly...
Mr. Papa Smoke's voice pulled me away from my thoughts. "Aedes, you're not yourself today. You are always involved in the game, but today seems different. Did something happen with your foster parents?" He asked me as he sat down onto his desk chair. His thick thighs spread out even more once they hit the cushion of the seat.
"No, Katherine and Bryin are fine. I'm fine," I replied.
"Is this about the talent show, Aedes? About Mr. Yoi?" I began to grow nervous. What did he know about Mr. Yoi?
"I don't know what you're talking about, Mr. Papa Smoke," I said. My pulse quickened, but he only smiled at me.
"I'm not saying I know anything, Aedes, but you know what I think? I think you shouldn't just be moping around, but involve yourself." He winked before continuing. "Do you understand what I mean?"
Despite the odd chances of Mr. Papa Smoke knowing what was going on between Mr. Yoi and me and him being alright with it, I knew he was not talking about gym class. I decided to talk to Mr. Yoi, I had to. The fate of our relationship hung in my microscopic hands...
