I trusted that Christopher would set Richothy straight, but I could not help the feeling of dread bubbling up in my stomach. If anyone found out about our relationship, not only would it end, but Christopher would lose his job. I knew in my heart I couldn't let that happen to the man I loved. After the conversation between Richothy and me, I knew he did not have qualms about Christopher losing his job... I could only hope Christopher would be successful at persuading him.
Now, it was Monday, the start of a new week. Terry and I were walking into school, him babbling away about the nerve Richie has for threatening me. I was not focused on him, or anything else for that matter, I could only think about Christopher.
Terry knew I was not sleeping well, staying up stricken with worry, and requested I join him in arriving to school an hour early to sneak into Mr. Papa Smoke's office. Terry promised me that I would only have to watch out for others as he attempted to pick the lock. Terry also promised that if we had enough time, we could break into Richothy's locker, and that won me over.
"What do you think we'll find in his office, Mos? Oh, God, I can only imagine," Terry giggled. His younger brother had lended him his lock picking kit he received for Christmas and Terry held it close to his chest. "I can't wait to get in there and see all the things he's hiding!" He practically skipped down the hall, before taking a left. By the time I returned to his side, he was already on his delicate, milky knees attempting to pick the lock.
The minutes passed by slowly, with Terry groaning in annoyance and aggravation before he suddenly yelped with excitement.
"I got it, come on!" He said, opening the door to Mr. Papa Smoke's office. It looked like it always did when I visited during gym class, but now we had total reign over the area. Terry began to quickly open all the drawers of his desk as I closed the door. Then, I watched the soft lips of my friend form an 'O' shape and he rummaged faster. He smiled triumphantly as he pulled out a leather collar lined with faux fur and beaded with diamonds.
"Oh, he has a dog?" I asked. Terry only smiled awkwardly before nodding slowly.
"Uh, yeah," He dropped the collar quickly and continued ransacking the belongings of our gym teacher and janitor. "Check this out!" He pulled his arm out of the cabinet bearing a shiny black ring, too large to fit on a finger, even one of Mr. Papa Smoke's enormous phalanges. He continued to pull out multiple items of odd shapes, some vibrating, as I gazed out the window in disinterest. From the office, I could see Christopher's familiar silver Volvo parked in his usual spot.
"I think I forgot my Calculus book in the history room," I said. The car was empty and one of the only vehicles in the parking lot.
"You mean in Mr. Yoi's room. When are you guys gonna go to the next level? You always tell me how much you want to. Not to mention how you moan his name in your sleep all the time," Terry teased. His head was buried in another drawer. I blushed a deep crimson and looked away from the window, picking up my bag from the floor.
"Stop, I do not! Good luck with... this," I replied, buzzing out the door while Terry yelled goodbye.
Christopher usually told me when he arrived at school, but he was also known to be forgetful. Instead of worrying, I continued down the numerous hallways until I reached his room tucked away in the east wing of the school. My hand was placed on the door handle, when I heard voices from inside.
"Richothy, we're done. We've been done. I need to move on and so do you. Especially you," came Christopher's voice from inside the classroom.
"Chris-"
"It's Mr. Yoi to you, Mr. Linkin. If Mos or I receive one more threat from you, you will live to regret it. Do you understand me?" Christopher all but yelled, his voice authoritative, not to mention incredibly sexy. There was a silence, until Christopher spoke up once more. "Do you?"
