Chapter 18: Initiation

2 Days Later (Your POV)

It's been a couple of days since I joined The Remnants and in all honesty, it's actually been quite fun. Crow has been pushing me constantly to begin focusing solely on taking down the White Masks, and that I should stop thinking about Team Rainbow for a bit. No matter how much she urges me to forget them, I just can't. I've hurt all of them, I did the one thing I promised I wouldn't do. It's probably for the best that they think I'm dead, it gives me time to sort out how I feel about them. As I'm lost in my thoughts, Phoenix taps me on the shoulder. "Briefing room, now. Crow's sending you on your first mission." I nod at him and we begin walking towards the Briefing Room. I open the door to see everyone else already there, each with mixed expressions on their face. I take a seat next to Snake and Crow begins to speak. "Ok, we've received intel that there is a major White Mask informant hiding out in this location here. He's one of their most important informants so expect heavy resistance. I want you guys all out in the field, I'll stay here and keep an eye out for any surprises. Dismissed." Everyone begins to stand up before Crow clicks her fingers, making us look at her. "I almost forgot, your new outfit is in your room, Eagle." I raise an eyebrow at her and start walking towards my room. I walk into my room and my eyes widen once I see the new outfit on a second armour rack next to my original outfit. 

I hear a set of footsteps walk into my room before stopping behind me, I turn around to see Snake with his arms crossed and a small smile. "It's one of Phoenix's old models, so there are some differences between this one and his. This one doesn't have the AI tech that he does or the special helmet functions, but he did integrate your tracking software so you'll have that at least. He also put in a voice changer so people don't recognize you. He hopes that it'll be a good replacement, seemed pretty excited that someone else got to try his stuff. He actually smiled, and he never smiles." I smile slightly before taking a step towards the armour, Snake realises that I'm going to change and excuses himself to go and ready up. This might take some time.

30 Minutes Later (Your POV)

The chopper pilot turns around in her seat to look at us and points towards the parachutes. "Ok guys, you're gonna have to parachute down there. We don't want to draw too much attention to ourselves, so once you jump I'll go and find a safe location and wait for your orders." All of us nod at her as she swivels around in her seat to face the front and the co-pilot waits by the door. A minute later, all of us are crouched next to the door and waiting for the signal to jump, receiving a thumbs up and the co-pilot opening the door and Snake jumping out, followed by Dingo, Wolverine and Phoenix. As I go to jump, the co-pilot places a hand on my shoulder and gives me a smirk. "Good luck down there bud, you're gonna need it." I nod at him and jump out, seeing the rest of the squad, except for Phoenix, doing flips and having a fun time while hurtling towards the ground. I can't help but smile and join in on the fun, hearing laughs and cheering from the others as a do a backflip. Realising that we're getting close to being too late to land without injury, I go onto the comms while pulling my parachute. "Guys, pull your damn parachutes, now!" Dingo and Wolverine both let out feminine shrieks in surprise and pull their chords at the same time, Snake curses before pulling his but Phoenix is nowhere to be seen. The other take notice before Wolverine jumps onto the comms while laughing. "That fucker is above you, he must have realised that we were getting close and didn't bother warning us. Cheeky twat!" I look up and see Phoenix flipping him off, causing everyone to laugh. Yes, even Phoenix laughed. "You should have been paying attention instead of pissing about, bro!" The two banter back and forth as we land on the roof of the factory one by one. Once we all remove the parachutes all of us take out our suppressed weapons and our comms suddenly come to life. "Alright, says here that he should be in the meeting room. White Masks know we're coming so expect heavy resistance." Before any of us have a chance to respond, Snake goes onto the comms. "Uh, Boss? We got a body over here, White Mask. Holy shit, this entire room is filled with them." We walk down the fire escape and climb through the window to regroup with Snake, to see that he was telling the truth. The entire room was littered with bodies, all with either a bullet hole through the skull or their neck sliced. I hear slight breathing and turn around to see a White Mask holding his neck and leaning against a wall. I walk over to him and place a hand on his shoulder while looking directly into his eyes. "Who did this?" He coughs up blood before looking back at me and breathing heavily. "Team Rainbow, they've got that bitch with the face paint with them. Please, kill me." I nod at him and place my silenced pistol against his head and pull the trigger, watching the blood explode from his skull and his lifeless body slump over. I replace my pistol into my holster and join the others in the hallway and Dingo turns his head to look at me. "We heard what he said, we need to get moving. Now." I nod at him and start leading the group through the factory. We get to a spilt in the hallway and I turn and look at them. "We should split up. Phoenix, you're with me. You three go that way and keep me updated, let's move." I go down the left side, Phoenix right behind me. We soon get to another split and Phoenix walks past me with a nod before heading down the right hallway, causing me to smile and roll my eyes as I begin walking down the left hallway. After a minute or so of walking, I come to a set of doors labelled 'Meeting Room' and press my earpiece. "I found the Meeting Room, I'm going in." I hear static before Crow's voice comes through the earpiece. "No, wait for backup. We don't need you getting yourself killed in the first mission." I sigh and take up a position against the doorframe, preparing to breach. "Fuck that, they might have already found the guy. Tell the others what's happening and to get their asses here, ASAP" She sighs in annoyance before replying. "Fine, good luck." I take my hand away from my earpiece and take a flashbang from my belt and place my hand on the door handle. I count down from three, crack open the door and throw the flashbang in, closing the door until hearing the satisfying bang. The sound of yelling causes me to smile while kicking open the door, only to get punched in the side of the head and getting knocked to the ground. Before I have a chance to stand up, I feel someone sat on top of me and feel a knife against my throat. I manage to raise my hand to the side of my helmet and activate my voice changer before my arms are forcefully pressed against the floor. "Where's the rest of your team?" Great, of course it would be Caveira who caught me. She pulls me to my feet before pushing me against a wall, giving me a pissed look the entire time. I take a moment to look around and see who else came with her. I look behind her to see IQ, Ela, Thermite and Doc all aiming their weapons at me. Caveira presses her knife against my throat harder while gritting her teeth together. "I asked you a question, answer me!" I raise my eyebrow underneath my helmet and gently shake my head, careful not to cut myself on her knife. "Not happening, sweetheart." Caveira headbutts me and the rest of her team drag her back while Doc keeps his magnum aimed at me. Through my helmet, I can hear the others talking but only one sentence matters. "We're outside, we'll flash them when you say 'Sacrifice' so make sure to cover your eyes." I smile slightly and look Doc in the eyes. "Tell me, Gustave. What's the most important part of war?" He raises an eyebrow and looks back to the others who shrug in response before turning back to me. "Victory" I smirk while shaking my head. Yes, but that can't be achieved without sacrifice" I see the door on the other side of the room open slightly and a flashbang roll in, and turn my head away from it. I hear the flashbang go off and see everyone stumbling around the room while my team walks into the room and yell at them to get on their knees. I see Ela trying to take out one of her mines and quickly grab her wrist, causing her to try and punch me. Wolverine grabs her other arm and forces her to lay on her stomach, then rests a knee on top of her back with her arms above her head. I look around the room and see the informant trying to crawl out the door, also trying not to be seen. I walk over to him and kick him in the chin, causing his head to recoil backwards and blood to come out of his mouth. "Where do you think you're going, fuckstick?" He groans in response, barely conscious. "Snake, you carry him. The rest of you, zip tie all of them to that pipe except Cav. Take her knife and put it in the middle of the table, then knock her out."  They all nod and we get to work. I grab Cav's knife and lean down to her ear, her trying to headbutt me again in the process. "When will you realise that we're not your enemies, Taina? If we were, we would just kill you. If you still think that we're against you after this then next time we might not be as nice." I stand up and stab her knife into the centre of the table and hear the sound of the butt of a gun connecting with her head. I help the others zip tie them by tying IQ to the pipe. "Sorry about this, Monika. I hope that we can work together soon." IQ growls at me before kicking me in the chest, causing me to fall onto my back. "Fuck you, I'll never work with anybody like you!" I sigh and walk away, seeing the others holding the door open for me as we left. Wolverine pats my shoulder as we begin to walk. "If only she knew." I laugh slightly, mostly to try and fight the sadness that's about to take over. Dingo slightly nudges me while giving me a sympathetic look. "I know that couldn't have been easy to do, but thank you. It's good to know that we can actually count on you to have our backs." I gently punch him in the shoulder as we walk down a flight of stairs, and Phoenix calls the chopper to come back. "It's good to know that you guys have mine too, I was honestly a bit worried while I was in there. I know what Cav is like, she would have killed me if I didn't tell her anything. You guys saved my ass, again." They all give me a smile and thumbs up as we exit the factory, and see the chopper landing in front of us. We all climb in and take off, we also begin to see the Rainbow Operators exiting the factory and firing their weapons at us, causing the pilot to wildly move the chopper to avoid getting hit. We manage to get away with only a few bullet holes. I tap my earpiece and begin to talk to Crow. "Crow, we've got the informant and encountered Rainbow, but they were dealt with. They're all still alive so maybe it'll get them thinking that we're not their enemy." I receive static before hearing Crow's voice and some cheering in the background. "Copy that, Eagle. You passed your initiation, you're now a full member of The Remnants. Welcome to the team, (Y/N)." Everyone in the chopper claps while the hostage looks around confused, before being knocked out by Snake. Phoenix turns to me and gives me a nudge. "You should get some sleep, you've had a rough day." The others nod in agreement, even the pilots. I sigh and lean my head back in my seat, and slowly slip out of consciousness.

A/N

I think that this is my longest chapter yet, at 2255 words. I honestly enjoy doing long chapters like these but it does take over 2 hours for various reasons. I've got to come up with the idea, type it up, re-read it, and then finally publish it. What do you guys think will happen next? I've got a real doozy in store for the next chapter. Spoiler alert: It'll be interrogation duty for (Y/N) which will give him a chance to show off how sadistic he can be when he wants. It'll also reveal just what exactly has happened to him in the past that makes him the way he is, and why he seems to not care about dying. For now, I'll leave you with a lovely meme. Enjoy.
