"Keith I'm telling you Michael B Jordan's character is not going to die."

"Ashly, yes he is."

"Keith no he's not. I've seen the movie multiple times I know what's going to happen and what's not going to happen."

"And I just seen the movie yesterday so everything that's going to happen is still fresh."

"Yeah you just seen it yesterday for the first time."

Ashly exclaimed and then laughed and seconds later Keith laughed with her. They were discussing what was going to happen in the movie Hardball. Ever since Ashly was younger she has seen it and the day before was Keith's first time seeing and today is of course his second day. While Keith was at home watching it Ashly was out shopping.

Before she could respond to Keith someone cut her off by speaking to her. When she looked up she couldn't believe who was in front of her. She ended her call with Keith and then gave him her full undivided attention.

"What's good Melissa?"

"Hey Rodney. What's going on with you?"

"Nothing much. Just out and about with my family."

"Oh your mom and sisters are with you?"

"Nah actually-."

"Daddy, daddy hide me before mommy tickles me again."

Ashly looked down at an adorable toddler who ran behind his legs then shortly afterwards a woman came jogging behind her.

"You can run but you can't hide from me little ms lady." She said in a funny voice which made the little girl burst into a fit of giggles.

The lady looked up from the kid and then at Ashly.

"Oh I am so sorry. Hi my name is Leslie, I'm Rodney's girlfriend and this little lady right here is our five year old daughter, Harleigh.

"It's nice to meet you guys. I'm Melissa, an old friend."

"What kind of old friend?"

"A special old friend."

She looked down at the girl and smiled.

"Hey babe why don't y'all go back to the food court and I'll meet y'all there."

"Okay babe. It was nice meeting you Melissa."

"Same here."

She smiled and waved to them and when she did he noticed the ring on her finger.

"I guess us departing was for the best, huh?"

"Yeah, I guess- guess you can say that. We started dating when we were young- not physically but mentally and we needed to mature."

"Melissa I know you probably don't want to hear this but I am sorry. I really am. I put you through a lot of bs and you didn't deserve it. You deserved to be treated like a queen and I didn't treat you like that."

"We don't know why but things happen and there's nothing we can do about it. I'm not the type to hold a grudge or wish bad on anybody so what I will say is I forgive you and believe it or not what I went through with you taught me a lot. Taught me how to be strong, how to love myself again, and it also told me that I have to really get to know a person before I can yell out the words "I love you" and welcome this person with open arms."

Rodney held his head down while nodding it and twisted his mouth to the side.

"I just have one question."

"What's up?"

"The things you did to me.. do you do them to her? Yes or no, no hesitation and just straight honesty."

The longer he took to answer Melissa could tell what his answer was. She patted his shoulder and looked into his eyes.

"Get some help Rod. If not for yourself then for your daughter. She needs you and her mother with her but she can't have y'all if you continue doing what you're doing."

"It's hard to stop when the person you looked up to did it to the person you needed the most."

"Break the cycle before its too late."

He nodded his head and then gave her a hug. After that they parted ways and when Ashly got to her car she said a silent prayer for him. Even though he did some damage to her she still cared for him.

When she got home she was surprise to see Keith still watching Hardball.

"You're watching it again, babe?"

"Yeah baby. At first I wasn't really pay attention, the second time I watched I started to get into it and now I'm hooked on it. I feel like I know these kids."

"Uh babe it's a movie and they are grown man now."

She let out at chuckle and he waved his hand at her and kissed his teeth.

"Whatever you know what I mean. Hey why did you end our call so quick earlier? I was still talking to you."

"I uh.. I had saw an old friend."
She fidgeted with her fingers.

"Oh okay. Old friend got a name?"

"Rodney."

Keith sat up and looked back at her.

"Who?"

"My ex boyfriend and your ex friend/co-worker, Rodney and before you start no he didn't touch me or threaten me, but we did talk, he apologized and he noticed my ring and I noticed his family."

"Rod got a family?"

"Well girlfriend and daughter."

Keith nodded his head.

"And I found out something."

"What?"

"He abuses his girlfriend. I don't know what made me ask but I did and when he didn't answer that right there gave me my answer. When I told him he needed to get some help he said how can he when his father took his mother away from him."

"Wait, so he's-."

"Adopted? Yes. I found that out two months into our relationship. He was high one night and next thing I know he had a confession night, just started telling me everything."

"What he had to witness as a child is wrong and heartbreaking. No child should have to watch abuse from their parents but that's still no excuse as to what he's doing. As a man, nah scratch that as a grown person in general you have a choice to either follow in parents footsteps or break the cycle. If he really had love for the girls he claimed he loved he wouldn't have done it."

"You good?"  Keith asked her as he noticed the expression on her face.

"I'm just thinking if I was still with him what would he have done to me? Why did I leave an abusive relationship from him to get back into another one but also controlling and possessive relationship?"

"No one knows baby, no one knows. But what matters now is that you're with me and I wouldn't put you in harms way and what you went through in the past made you stronger."

"Thank you."

He nodded his head and gave her a hug and kiss on her forehead.

In the beginning I kinda, somewhat, sorta knew where I was going with the chapter buuuut I didn't know what route to take to end it soooo I end it here 😬🤷🏾‍♀️

Next chapter will be a time skip and also the last chapter of Save Me. I already have my cover, title and description for the sequel. I haven't published it but I may publish it soon as I end this book or maybe a day or two after. It all depends on when I get the first chapter done and if I like enough to publish it.

The way I have the storyline set up I am going to enjoy nah LOVE writing it and I believe you guys will love reading it.
