Quantum Mechanics

Quantum Mechanics is a set of rules to the universe that are often said to rival, and sometimes even contradict gravity, which breaks time and space, and therefore creates a mess of the physical laws of the universe. It's complicated, is what is trying to be stated.

Quantum mechanics deals with particles too small to observe, so their properties are approximated. Gravity, on the other hand, deals with the precise distance between particles, and space-time cannot accurately be calculated due to the differences. There are simply too many differences to deal with, something so small it becomes way bigger than ourselves.

Chad Conway ran as fast as his legs could carry him. This was no ordinary theft, it was potentially the most important in both his career and lifetime. His life may literally depend on it. He cut through the tide of people, trying to throw his pursuer off of him, but the push of the crowd was too strong. Chad managed to slip out of the sea of people and into a side alleyway. The sounds of the busy street cut off and faded, an underscore of silence and the ominous deep low sweep of fear filled the atmosphere.

Behind him, Chad could hear the thump of the footsteps behind him. Getting into the alley was a good and bad thing. Moving into the alleyway allowed for his own mobility, but also allowed his pursuer to be more mobile.

Click.

The lack of people also allowed for some violence, as he was reminded by the cock of a gun behind him.

BANG!

A large metal core slammed down on the oak desk before being slid across to Chad. The core glowed, a battery of some kind, maybe for some powerful weapon.

"Recently, we acquired these Quantum Entangled Batteries. The reports all say that they will be the power of the future, one of these little suckers will be ten times more efficient than a nuclear plant. But, we have no idea how to get them to work. That's where you come in,"

Conway adjusted his glasses before fixing his eyes on the iridescent object.

"I thought these things were theoretical, years more of advancement were needed to even construct a carapace that could contain that much energy. I have no idea,"

Inside, Chad did know. However, there was no way that he was going to give that information to one of the largest crime-lords in the world. That would basically be spelling out world suicide.

"You are one of the leading scientists in Quantum Physics, and you don't know?"

"Where did you get these batteries from, anyway?"

"LUMINOSITY Labs."

"Then go steal some of their information! Don't ask me!"

"Great idea. I think I know just the man for the job."

Chad blinked. The crime-lord was looking straight at him.

"What? I'm a scientist! I'm no thief! You have thousands of goons, and why me?"

"I know that you know how valuable that information gets in the right hands,"

Chad gulped. He knew that he knew that he was hiding something. Wait, what?

"I... I...?"

"Let's call this a test of loyalty. If you stay loyal to me, deliver the information, and use that information to help my cause, we'll be all good. But if you disobey me, then the wrong hands will pluck that information from your cold, dead hands. That is my final offer."

The crime-lord slammed the table.

BANG!

Chad was snapped out of his flashback. He couldn't believe he was even doing this. Just focus on the ground ahead of you, and keep running. In his way was a chain link fence. Jumping up a railing, Chad vaulted over the fence and onto another railing on the other side, his pursuer close behind. Chad scrambled up a staircase, desperate to put distance between him and his pursuer. Chad was now on the roof. From here, he could see where the man he had stolen from was originally headed. Chad could see LUMINOSITY Labs, and there was something clearly wrong going on, as giant bolts of red lightning swirled in all directions, occasionally lashing out.

The last thing Chad saw was a flash of red before he was enveloped in an electrical storm.

Chad was just one person, one minute, small person in the vast universe, yet had just become a problem bigger than himself.
