SPOILERS AHEAD: Markus, chapter 3. Do not read if you have not had your first encounter with Leo. (please don't hate me for this lol)

A young girl exited out of her autonomous taxi, hearing the familiar goodbye and thank you from Cyberlife. As the door slid closed, the car sped off, leaving the previous female passenger on the sidewalk.

She looked up at the mansion she hadn't seen since she moved from Detroit those years ago. Around the age of 18, she was accepted into Harvard, and was flown to Massachusetts a few months later, happy. She was now 23, newly graduated and wanted to pay a visit to the man she associated as a father figure.

Carl Manfred.

As a child, she was neighbours to the artist, and would always come over to hang out with Leo. The two kids were schoolmates, bestfriends and partners in crime. When she turned 16, Leo got involved with drugs and alcohol, which in turn distanced the two previous best friends, and the last thing she heard before she flew off to Harvard, was that he had blown hundreds of dollars on said drugs.

As mad and upset that made her, disappointment outscaled all other emotions. The guy she loved ended up becoming the one thing she feared. He was becoming just like her late father. She always thought that was another reason she flew to MA so fast; to get away from a repeat of her past.

Y/N took careful strides to the big, front door. It opened automatically, "Alarm deactivated, welcome home, Y/N." A voice spoke.

Carl added her into the system when she moved in around the age of 14, since her father had passed away and her mother became an alcoholic who indulged herself in work.

She noticed that neither Markus nor Carl were home, and made her way to the living room to take a seat and wait, facing away from the art studio.

Luckily, she only had to wait 10-ish minutes for the door to open, and the robotic voice spoke once again. "Alarm deactivated, welcome home Carl and Markus."

"...were excited to meet you, Carl."

"Oh.. They were just wanting- Oh my God, Y/N?"

She gave a sheepish wave, a smile placed on her features. "Hi, Carl. I hope it's okay I'm here, I wanted to visit..," she glanced towards Markus, "hi Markus!"

Markus, in a way, was kind of like a big brother to Y/N. He had a protective demeanour but was a total softie once you got to know him. "Y/N! Glad to see you again."

"You know I'm always happy to see you, baby girl! It's been so long. Last I heard you were going to Harvard. How are you?" Carl spoke, feeling his eyes slightly burn. He wheeled over to Y/N.

"I've been good! I graduated in August and thought I'd stop by. How about you, is everything okay with Leo?" Y/N answered and leaned down to give the old man a hug.

The fall of Carl's face gave her the answer she was hoping not to hear. "He's still stuck on those drugs.. Still asking for money. Markus, can you get Y/N and I a drink please?"

The android nodded before walking towards the kitchen.

As Carl wheeled towards the studio, he noticed something off. "Markus, did we leave the lights on in the studio today?"

Markus came back with a couple drinks in hand, "No." He answered.

"Call the police."

Y/N watched as Markus' LED turned yellow, before slowly stalking over to the curtains.

"Y/N, wait for us." Carl called out, a warning in his tone.

She shook her head, opened the curtains and walked towards the figure hunched over the painting. Gasping, Y/N splayed a hand a few inches in front of her. "L-Leo? What are you doing?"

"Getting my early inheritance," Leo turned around, an obviously high smile on his face; he reeked of drug and cigarette smoke. "What else?"

"Why?" Came the timid question from the young woman's mouth.

A humourless chuckle came out of Leo's mouth, but before he could respond, Carl interrupted.

"Leo, stop this right now."

Leo stepped forward as Y/N stepped back, getting behind Markus in slight fear. "Why, dad? Huh?"

"Markus..." Markus knew immediately what Carl wanted, and began walking towards Leo.

"Oh, so you're gonna sic your lap dog on me? I know you never loved me dad, but this thing," he prodded Markus' chest with his finger, "this thing isn't your son!" Yelled Leo, before shoving the android backwards.

"Markus, don't fight back. Whatever you do, don't. Fight. Back." Carl commanded, worried for both his son and Markus.

"Leo.. Don't do this.. Please."

Leo gave a scowl to Y/N. "Why not? Because you love me? Because I've 'changed'?" His voice got louder as he stepped towards his old friend. "Well guess what?! I don't care!"

Leo shoved her backwards, but because she wasn't as strong as Markus, she couldn't catch herself and fell back into the shelf of paint cans, watching as they toppled over her, multiple cans hitting her head and knocking her out.

Everyone in the room froze, watching as blood began to cover the concrete floor. "Ho-Holy shit... Y-Y/N? I'm.. I'm so sorry I--"

The curtain covering the studio door was harshly pulled open, and Leo, Carl and Markus could only watch silently as someone they thought of as family, was lifted from under the cans and put onto a gurney.

Leo saw the cracks on her skull bleed profusely, Carl saw the dullness of her eyes, and Markus saw the beat of her heart stop.

They all watched their friend die in front of them. And then they watched their father clutch his heart, doubling over in pain.

          ALTERNATE ENDING
Leo arrived at the hospital hours later, rushing up to the receptionist. "Y/N L/N?"

The lady nodded and pointed down the hall, a sympathetic smile laid on her face. "Room 277, Miss L/N is in a coma, but she can still hear you."

Walking towards the hospital room, Leo felt guilt begin to build on his shoulders. It got heavier and heavier as he got closer, and he paused outside the door.

"Miss L/N is in a coma, but she can still hear you."

What would he even say? "Uh, hey sorry for almost killing you I hope you can forgive me."?

Eventually, he just decided on going with the flow. It's better to just be genuine.

Leo turned the handle, pushing the door open. He grimaced at the bandages on his friend's forehead and skull, the beeping of the heart monitor ringing in his ears.

The boy took a seat on the side of the bed, sitting for what felt like hours before speaking. "Hey, Y/N.. Uh, I-I, well, ugh, fuck it. I'm so sorry, I regretted ever pushing you the second I did it. I remember.. Seeing the fear in your eyes at what those.. Drugs did to me. And it was the worst feeling, my heart felt like it was going to snap in half, the last thing I ever wanted was for you to be scared of me. I just... I want to start over. I want to start fresh from the drugs and I want to.. To be a better son, a better friend.. And.. Maybe a better b-boyfriend? Because, if I'm honest, I've loved you for years. Ever since I saw you in that pink dress with those H/C piggytails, and those sparkly pink shoes.. I knew I was going to marry you. I don't know how true that is anymore, but, I never stopped hoping." He grabbed her hand, chuckling when he noticed the line on the heart monitor spike up, meaning his words had some kind of affect on her.

"God I just, wish you were awake. But, I can wait. I should probably get going, dad might arrive soon; he told me he was going to visit after I did... I still need to talk to him.. I-Uh.. I love you, okay? I'll see you tomorrow. Promise." Leo leaned over, hesitantly kissing Y/N's forehead, then left the room to come back the next day.
