First Day: Sea Foam Eyes
"You're in my seat." Someone said from beside me as I sketched lightly in my notebook. I looked up, surprised. I was met by sea foam green eyes, something I wasn't expecting.
"O-oh! I'm so sorry!" I exclaimed, beginning to pack my things.
"It's fine, I'll sit here." He said, no emotion in his voice. He sat in the seat beside me.
"A-are you sure?" I asked the red head, uncertain.
"Yeah." He said, pulling out a notebook. "Who are you? I don't recognize you." He said, not looking at me.
"I'm Rain." I said, continuing to look at the male. The air about him was unique, and he was interesting for sure.
"I'm Gaara."
"That's an interesting name." I commented. "I like it." I smiled. He looked up to me, seeming to be surprised by my comment. The bell rang, interrupting our conversation.
Kakashi called roll call, and I could feel some stares at me. I really wasn't that interesting or anything, so why were people staring at me? Class started, and I listened partially, spending most of it doodling in my notebook. We were reading poetry, which wasn't something I was very interested in.
"Rain?" I heard someone call my name. I didn't realize Kakashi had been talking to me. I looked up, making eye contact between my brown eyes and his obsidian ones.
"Y-yes Sensei?" I spoke unsteadily.
"Will you please read the poem?" I gulped, looking into the text book.
"As-"
"Please stand up." I was the only student that had been told to stand up. I sighed, standing. I could see Sakura smirking, clearly waiting for me to mess up. I was ready to prove her dumb pink-haired head wrong.
I cleared my throat, beginning again.
"Valediction: Forbidding Mourning."
"As virtuous men pass mildly away,
And whisper to their souls to go,
Whilst some of their sad friends do say
The breath goes now, and some say, No:
So let us melt, and make no noise,
No tear-floods, nor sigh-tempests move;
'Twere profanation of our joys
To tell the laity our love.
Moving of th' earth brings harms and fears,
Men reckon what it did, and meant;
But trepidation of the spheres,
Though greater far, is innocent.
Dull sublunary lovers' love
(Whose soul is sense) cannot admit
Absence, because it doth remove
Those things which elemented it.
But we by a love so much refined,
That our selves know not what it is,
Inter-assured of the mind,
Care less, eyes, lips, and hands to miss.
Our two souls therefore, which are one,
Though I must go, endure not yet
A breach, but an expansion,
Like gold to airy thinness beat.
If they be two, they are two so
As stiff twin compasses are two;
Thy soul, the fixed foot, makes no show
To move, but doth, if the other do.
And though it in the center sit,
Yet when the other far doth roam,
It leans and hearkens after it,
And grows erect, as that comes home.
Such wilt thou be to me, who must,
Like th' other foot, obliquely run;
Thy firmness makes my circle just,
And makes me end where I begun."I tried to put as much emotion and effort into it as possible, wanting to make the lines more enjoyable and not quite so boring. Once I spoke the last word, the classroom was silent. I couldn't tell if it was because they were bored, or if it was so bad they were stunned into silence. I continued to stare down at the textbook, afraid to look up. I had to eventually.
I looked up, the first person I saw being Sakura. She was gawking, jaw-dropped as she stared at me. I began to sit down when someone began clapping. It was soft, but soon was joined by more. I felt my face flush as I stared down at the desk, wishing I could just disappear. I should've just read it like everyone else.
"That was marvelous, Ms. Hikaru. Thank you." Kakashi said, smiling at me. I felt my blush worsen, and I just fiddled with my hair as I avoided everyone's gazes. I took theater in my old school, so forcing emotion into my words was nothing new. I just never received reactions like that.
The rest of the class was boring, but my body was still warm from my reading. It was lovely to be appreciated so much. I was ready for the best school year of my life.
