"Princess Solstice? Are you awake?" I looked over to find Bells head popping out from behind the door. It's been three days since my horrendous brunch with Prince Frosts and being poisoned but for my own good. I was finally back to my normal, healthy self. It's also been three days since I learned that Mas was protecting me for another Queen.
"I am, Bells. Come in," I said, sitting up in my bed. She came in and closed the door behind her quietly. She was holding a tray of water and fruits that she placed on the bench at the end of my bed.
"How are you feeling? The queen has been worried." The thought of my mother made me uneasy. She was planning something with Frosts that made me nervous. She couldn't possibly like the South side of the Winter lands.
"I'm feeling much better." I got out of bed to sit on the bench and grabbed an apple off the tray. Bells was wiping down my vanity and cleaning the windows as I ate the fruit.
I was munching on a grape when my mind wondered off to magic. Mas had powers, which wasn't surprising because I knew some people throughout all the lands possessed them. Well, there were multiple rumors of people who could use magic; glamour, teleporting, reading minds. I was always a believer while my mother would hush me the second I tried to talk about it.
"Are there any plans for today?" I asked, eating the last grape and drinking my water. Bells nodded, tucking the cleaning supplies under her arms so she could brush the hair out of her face.
"There is a meeting of the Winter lands tonight. Your mother requested you attended."
"Please go get the queen, Bells," I said, politely. However, I wanted to scream it and throw my bed out the window. Bells stared at me for a minute before bowing and scurrying out of the room.
"This will not end well." I shrieked, throwing the glass in my hand at Mas who now sat on my couch below the large window that over looked my lands. He caught the glass in one hand with a smirk on his face.
"You need to stop doing that," I said. Mas shrugged, setting the glass on the side table next to the couch.
"It's plenty fun to startle you." I rolled my eyes at him. I felt too bare in my nightgown so I crossed my legs and threw a small blanket over my shoulders. "What are you going to do when your mother gets here?"
"I'm sure you'll just turn invisible and stick around to find out."
"I have much better things to do than sit here and hid in your room. I just have to sneak in whenever the door is open and that's usually through Bells." I sighed, a headache forming as I thought about this dinner.
"I was hoping they thought Frosts poisoned me so I would never have to see him again," I admitted. His name tasted foul in my mouth.
"Me as well. However, your mother is willing to look past that." He propped his toned arm on the back of the couch as his one leg rested on the other.
"She told me she wanted me to find a man, but him? Why him?" I groaned, wrapping the blanket up around my face. Maybe I could just suffocate myself to avoid the meeting.
"Are you not charmed by his constant dares and creature like teeth?" The blanket fell back around my shoulders as I glared at Mas. He sat with a playful grin on his face.
"I'd rather my future man not be a wolf, so no." Mas chuckled, looking over his shoulder. I knew the view was breath taking as the sun hit the snow making it sparkle.
"If this was really about a man you could glamour as someone else and maybe Frosts would finally disappear," I mumbled. I wanted to punch him in the face and he wasn't even here.
Mas's attention turned back to me, amusement dancing in his eyes. His one leg fell off the other as he sat up straighter.
"Do you believe this is really about a man, Solstice?" Before I could ask what else would it be about, the door to my room swung open and he vanished.
"Yes?" Was all my mother said as she stood in my room in a white robe, hair wet from a shower.
"Why are we having this meeting tonight?" I asked, controlling my anger that was quickly rising with hers.
"To discuss border control. We do it every year." Her head held high as she crossed her arms.
"It hasn't even been a week since Frosts poisoned me and you're letting him back in here?" I challenged, standing up. The blanket fell behind me like a cape.
"It was clearly a waiter. I expect you to be ready be four." She started to turn on her heel, the conversation was over.
"This is why I like father more. You are so uptight about everything that deals with the lands. I understand its importance, but Frosts is dangerous." I blurted out. She froze with her hand reaching for the door knob. Her eyes cut to mine with a fire raging in them.
"He's not the only one to look out for, Solstice." Then she was gone.
