Kisses

We step into the tall, glass elevator, intricate silver designs line the glass frame. The silver curls and twists in all the right places. It smells of bleach and fresh lemons, it almost burns my eyes. I've never eaten a lemon before, I'm surprised I even know what one smells like, it's an natural instinct I guess.

We somehow manage to all fit in one elevator. This isn't my first time in one, we built them in District 2. They were also assembled in the Nut, the big mountain that's full of tunnels. I've only been in the Nut a couple times briefly, but I know it is very well built and structured and won't cave in.

"Hand, please." Paisley says and grabs Cato's hand. She places one of his fingers on an hologram touchpad and the elevator doors shut.

Cato and I are squashed to the back of the elevator. Brutus and Enobaria got in last so they are at the front and Paisley is just kind of standing in the middle, her wacky, dark blue dress takes up half of the elevator itself. I wonder if she ever gets it stuck in the door like Rosemary, my stylist. She somehow manages to turn around and face Cato and I.

"Every District gets their own floor. District one gets floor one and District two gets floor two! You see?" Paisley asks. I nod.

"So, we get the whole entire floor to ourselves?" Cato grins.

"Yes, it's made just for you." Enobaria says. Just for us, that sounds nice. Just for 'us', as in just Cato and I. My attention returns to the rose Cato gave me. I bring it up to my nose and sniff it. It's scent is calming, it's not like the strong elevator lemon smell. Suddenly the bell goes off, telling me we have reached our floor.

"Oh! Here we are!" Paisley shouts in a Capital accent. The doors open right into our apartment.
"Wait, so anyone can just press the two on the elevator pad and walk right into our apartment?" Cato asks.

"Not exactly. Each floor is finger print activated. Clove and your finger prints are in the system." Brutus explains. We nod.

"Well, you guys did great tonight. I'll see you guys tomorrow." Enobaria says.

"Take it easy." Brutus adds.

"Bye." I say and they press the elevator button to go back downstairs. Finally, I get to relax, or so I thought. Paisley gives us a tour of the giant apartment. I've never seen such furniture like this before, bright colors and funny shapes don't really mix, apparently whoever made them had different tastes. Paisley shows us the living room, the dining room, and a giant closet. There's nothing in it at all, it's just an empty room with no light switch. When we get to our bedrooms, Paisley says goodnight and finally leaves. The second the elevator doors close, I turn to Cato. He grabs my hand and smiles. My heart feels as if it is exploding. I can feel my chest pounding harder by the second. I want that kiss. I need that kiss.

"Now what?" I ask. We just stand there, maybe two feet away from each other.

"We could go to sleep?" He suggests. That wasn't really the answer I was hoping for.

"Oh, yeah sure. We have a big day tomorrow." I sigh and turn around to the door of my assigned bedroom and open it.

"Goodnight." I say, no response.

"Goodnight." I say louder. Maybe he didn't hear me the first time. I just stand in the doorway waiting. What is he doing? Finally I decide to turn around and find he is standing right infront of me. Our chests are just barely touching.

"Cato." I laugh. He leans down and rests his forehead on mine.

"Where's my goodnight kiss?" He asks.

"Right here. It's always been right here." I flirt. I can't wait any longer.

"Right exactly where I want it to be." He says. He starts leaning. This is it. But I want our first kiss to be fun. Just as his lips are less than one centimeter away, I turn my head and his kiss lands on my cheek. I know that will drive him crazy. I laugh and turn to run into my room but he grabs my waist and turns me back around.

"That wasn't very nice, Miss Kentwell." He laughs.

"Goodnight, Cato." I tell him.

"Awe come on, please? Just one little kiss goodnight?" He pleads. All I can see is his gorgeous blue eyes. I know I want that kiss just as much as him but I want it to be special. But I don't want to give him the wrong idea by not kissing him so I give him a little kiss on his cheek.

"Goodnight, Clover." He says and walks into his own room. Clover isn't such a bad nick name after all. I guess I'll let it slide. I walk into my room but I leave the door open just in case. I change into just an over-sized gray shirt and put my costume in the closet. The walls of my room are dark purple and the bed spread is black, it makes the room look ten times darker than it is. A giant window is placed right to the side of my bed that over looks the Capital. All of the lights in the city look like fire, glowing brighter and brighter. I'm not very high up at all so I can mostly see just the street and beyond the lower buildings. A part of me wishes I lived in the Capital, but the other part wishes to be wherever Cato is.
