Chapter 5

(p.s I changed Eliza's name to Elijah because it made more sense than Ethan)

I walked to my first class of the day alone. I needed to get there early to get a good seat. I looked down at my watch and realized I was an hour early. I couldn't even get into the classroom yet. I decided that going to the library was the best thing I could do as I waited.  'At least I can get a book' I thought as I opened the door and noticed Jamie busily putting books on the shelf.

"Jamie? What are you doing here so early?" I inquired. She turned around with a jump, not expecting anyone to be around so early.

"Oh! Alex, it's just you," she said softly, "I didn't realize you liked to be up so early! Anyways, I work here... well not work work here but I volunteer in the mornings along with Maria, speaking of who is late!" Jamie said directing the last part to the girl who had just walked in the door.

Maria was a pretty girl with cropped, wavy, chestnut brown hair. She wore a light red sweatshirt that read "Colombia University" and had on some light wash jeans and black worn flats.

"I know, I know," She muttered throwing her black backpack behind the checkout counter, "I'm so sorry; my toaster broke and I had to run out to get a muffin," she said her gaze finally meeting us.

"Who are you?" She said automatically, obviously embarrassed by her lack of respect, she put her hand to her mouth as to excuse herself, "Oh no that was rude! Hi, I'm Maria, nice to meet you. And you are?" She said, restarting.

"Alexandra Hamilton. My name is Alexandra Hamilton, nice to meet you, Maria," I said trying to match her politeness.

She and Madison got to work as I excused myself to go grab a law book to read while I waited to go to class.

I skimmed through the pages not paying too much attention as I had already read this one. I got up and decided to go to the history section. I pulled out a couple of independence war books and checked them out. I neatly placed them in my bag and checked my watch.

The wristband was extremely worn out and the glass had a crack that almost reached the other side of the circular clock face, making it hard to read.  Despite that, I could just make out that class would start in a half hour. I looked around to see Jamie grabbing her backpack.

"Are you headed to class, too?" I asked her. She nodded her head and we walked out side by side. Not too far ahead I could make out Thalia's poofy hair as she walked beside Aaren with her black ringlets bouncing around her head.

"Hey, do you like Thalia?" I asked Jamie. Out of the corner of my eye, I watched her face turn crimson red.

"I- wha- no- she's my best friend- no- why, why would you think that? I like her but I don't like like her I mean we're just.... friends. Yep, just pals, me and her... heh heh..."

"Ah, I see," I said smirking. I thought I'd play along,

"Yeah, I can tell there's no feeling there at all," I continued, dragging out the last two words, having them drip in sarcasm,

"Oh, shut up," she snapped. I laughed at her annoyance.

"Well, it's not like she'll ever like my back, I mean if I did like her. Hypothetically, if I did have feelings for her, I would never have the confidence to, hypothetically, ask her out.
If I did like her though, I think I would hypothetically like how she doesn't care what people think, and she has very nice hair, and a good facial structure, y'know? Nice eyes, a cute nose, pretty lips... Hypothetically she's beautiful. Just putting things out there, this is all very hypothetical." She rambled to me, obviously she trusted me, which was nice because in the Caribbean no one had trusted me. It was a good change of pace.

"Well, hypothetically, would this hypothetical Jamie who likes Thalia like for me to gather some info on her feelings? All hypothetically of course." I said briskly,

"If it wouldn't be too much trouble I think that she would like that. Hypothetically," she said, continuing the game,

I smiled at her and she smiled back, "On one condition..." she nodded as to say "continue", "you owe me." I finished.

"Sounds fair." She stated. We walked the rest of the way to class in silence.

Throughout the class, I semi-paid attention to the teacher. I mainly wrote notes on my computer about how Thalia and Jamie were acting. 'My second day and I'm already slipping out of class!' I thought. After that, I paid more attention to the teacher.

But not really.

A/N hello everyone! I thought I'd get a chapter out for the 4th of July! (Since half the few readers I have are American) also, I would like to say that I'm gonna get Thalia and Jamie together before I get Lams or Mullette together because they've known each other for years opposed to a couple days. I'm also not gonna wait for Alex to edit because she can edit another day, I wanna get this up. Sorry, it's short but I felt it was a good way to end the chapter.
