When dawn broke, my terror left with the night, and I headed back to the trailer. I had to decide whether or not to tell Jughead about the texts and the encounter with the Black Hood. One one hand, he was my boyfriend, and he needed to know if someone was threatening me. On the other hand, this was my problem to deal with, and he seemed more concerned about Betty right now.
The moment I reached the trailer park, I knew I was safe. Through the duration of the walk, I was constantly looking over my shoulder, and checking around every corner for the Black Hood. He wasn't there. Now, if he tried anything to hurt me, then I'd have Serpents all around me for protection.
I opened the door to the trailer and let myself in. I heard no sound. At the sound of the door closing, movement was heard from my right, the living area. When I looked over, I saw Jughead sitting up from the couch, removing his arm from Betty and looking at me in utter shock. My eyes filled with tears, watching Betty wake up once her phone rang. Jug looked over to me, then put his head down, while I stood frozen on the doorstep. Betty left soon after, saying she needed to see her mom.
"Thia, please, it wasn't what it looked like." He begged, coming over and holding my arms. Once his hands were rested on my arms I pulled away, out of his grasp.
"And what did it look like, J? My boyfriend choosing to spend a night cuddled up on the couch? Or my boyfriend not coming to look for me when there is a killer on the loose? Or my boyfriend preferring to stay with Betty Cooper?" My voice was raised as I wriggled out of his grip. He stood by the door, tears forming in his eyes as he watched me back away from him, screaming questions at him.
"I was comforting her..." His words were drowned out at the sound of my phone indicating a text. Ignoring it, I began to tell him how I had wandered the streets last night, and then spent the early hours of this morning in Pop's. I chose, at this moment, to not mention the Black Hood. My phone went off again, and still we ignored it.
"Thia, I love you. I could have chosen Betty last year, but I didn't because I wasn't in love with her. I adore you. You are on my mind every minute. Betty convinced me you were with Toni, so I didn't follow you. I didn't think you would be stupid enough to wander the streets alone--" My text tone filled the room. Sighing I reached for it.
"Remember what I told you last night."
"If you don't, there will be bloodshed."
"Run home Blossom, -BH"
I locked my phone immediately, not wanting Jughead to see the words. I knew he loved me, but his attention was always split between us. We hadn't been on a date in months, and we barely got time together save for our evening sleeping arrangements.
"Jug, I just don't want you to leave me for the typical girl-next-door." I told him, slowly approaching him. If it wasn't for the messages from the Black Hood, I would be holding this grudge for days, but, in the aftermath of the evenings chase, and the harassment from a psychopath, I seeked comfort and safety. Only one person provided that for me. I then told Jug that I was going to make breakfast, then get ready for school, vowing that the moment we got home, I'd be going straight to bed.
I was woke from my sleep by the phone ringing. I walked up to my phone on the table, seeing it was Veronica, and Jughead was nowhere to be found.
"Are you friends with the Serpents? If you are get to Archie's house, quickly. They are about to fight the Bulldogs." Then she hung up the phone.
She never called me, so getting this frantic call about a fight between the Serpents and the Riverdale Bulldogs, meant that something bad would be about to kick off. No doubt one of the Serpents would take it too far, bringing a weapon. If they didn't and one of the Bulldogs hit to hard and injured one of them, then the Bulldogs would start a war in Riverdale.
I walked over to the desk, knowing that inside would be a gun. Jughead had told me about it when I moved in. He said that his dad kept it there for emergencies only, and that he had never touched it himself. I had no plans to use it, but they didn't know that. Back at Thornhill, Cheryl and I excelled in hunting, so we could both handle a bow and arrow and gun very well. Then, I ran over to our room, picking out some black leather shorts, a green crop top and took Jughead's Serpent jacket off the hook. I had on black wedged shoes, but that didn't stop me from running to Archies.
When I arrived, my hair soaked because of the rain, I saw flashes of black and blue in the street as teenagers fought each other. The Bulldogs may have had the sporting ability, but the Serpents had the fighting experience. At the end of the streets, I stopped running and then began to walk forward. My bright red hair was curling in the rain, and my heels were clicking and splashing as I made my way forward. Just as I reached the group, I saw Sweet Pea kicking Archie into the ground.
I reached the first fighting pair, walking straight past them. They both looked up at me, as I passed the next two. This continued as I passed each and every pair, standing just behind a brawling Archie and Sweet Pea. The Bulldogs behind me wouldn't hurt me, knowing I was Cynthia Blossom and my sister would murder them. The Serpent's wouldn't harm me as I was Jughead's girlfriend and was wearing their skin. Carefully, I raised my gun in the air, and fired, drawing attention to me as Archie and Pea turned to look at who had shot.
Like terrified puppies, the Bulldogs all ran to Veronica, who was standing on the opposite side to me. I lowered my gun and she nodded in thanks at me, and I saw her holding her own gun. Pea grabbed my arm, leading me away, asking why I had stopped them.
"Because, who will get blamed when they go home and tell their parents? I am not going to sit here with you guys getting in trouble for something you probably didn't start." I snapped back.
The Serpents all got on their bikes or in their cars. Sweet Pea turned my way, asking if I needed a lift. Nodding, I sat behind him on his motorcycle.
"Hey, Lady Serpent, that jacket suits you." He smiled, beginning to drive me home. One thought stayed prominent on my mind. How did Veronica have a gun?
And so the young lovers went back to where it all began...Sweetwater River... to try and end the cycle of violence. We'd come to think of that night, the night of the rumble....the night of the town hall, as a turning point. Riverdale would no longer be "the town with pep." From now on, it would be known as "the town that dreaded sundown."
