Chapter 03
Awakenings
Officer Leonard Thorne was getting ready to leave for the day in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was the end of the afternoon shift and he was loking forward to getting home, having a few brewskis, and relaxing by his wood burning fireplace. He was just putting his things into his locker when he suddenly felt a searing pain all over. "NO!!!!!" he cried. "Not now, not here, no more, please!" he was begging, even though he wasn't talking to anybody. He didn't have time for this. It was happening again.
Nick woke with a start. He was bound head to foot in bandages. The doctor attending him gasped, and said,"OH MY LORD!!!! YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO WAKE UP FROM THOSE PAINKILLERS FOR ANOTHER DAY!!!!!!!!!" "Another day?" asked Nick. "The doctor recovered from his shock and said,"Yes, you've been unconscious for about three and a half weeks." "WHAT!!!!!!" exclaimed Nick. "You're friend Alex only woke up yesterday." stated the doctor. Nick could only stare in silence. He was starting to breathe heavily.
Alex was in his room, enjoying the evening news. The doctor came in and told him that the bandages on his hands could come off now. "Really, you're whole body should have been burned. If it wasn't for that big guy, you would be dead." "What?" "He was on top of you when we found you. His whole body was scorched, but he was still breathing. His skin was charred black, and I really don't see how ANY of you three are still alive. You're hands were the only thing sticking out from his giant body." The bandages were taken away and Alex inspected his hands. They were a little shriveled, and still quite burned, but at least he could move them.
Officer Leonard woke up. He was passed out on the floor in the locker room, and finding it very hard to move. He soon saw why. His legs had grown ten times larger than a normal mans. He wished he could figure out why this was happening, as it wasn't the first time. "First my arms, now why are my legs doing this?" His arms had done the same thing only a month ago. Through intense concentration, he focused on his legs and tried to get them to shrink like he did his arms. It was working, but it would take time. He couldn't figure out why this was happening. All he could think of, however, was what that strange woman had said to him a day before his arms grew. She had said,"It will only get worse from here. Sorry I coulndn't stop it sooner."
