*Leah's POV*
When will he ever listen to me? When will he ever take me seriously? When will he stop being such a .. such a CHILD!
Thoughts were running through my mind making my head throb as I kept running. To where? I don't really know. I could still hear the laughter in my ears and it worsened my headache.
Is this all a game to him? Am I just a joke to him? I think, by now, he should know me well enough to know when I'm joking or being serious. He should know how much his promises mean to me, no matter how small.
I took a turn in the hallway and found myself near the DADA classroom. I ran up the stairs mid-way and entered a private stairwell which led to the back of the castle. There, a huge window was slightly open, sending a cool breeze in the closed off place. I felt my knees weaken. Just then I felt tired from all the running and sat down on the small steps that lead to the window.
I felt myself shiver, but decided to ignore the chill that was invading my whole body. I was still drenched in water and sticky from the eggs and flour. Suddenly, I heard a soft owl hoot. I turned around to look out the window. Was that Jinx? I know all owls hoot, but I know what he sounded like. I saw no sign of an owl and shrugged it off. I could distinctly make out my reflection in the glass. I looked horrible. I was white as a ghost from all the flour and not to mention, my hair looked like a bird's nest from the eggs. My uniform looked slightly darker because of all the water that it soaked up. I was a mess.
I thought about how fast everything had happened. Me walking in the common room and then the next thing I knew, laughter filled the room and I was a hot mess. All of my friends worried faces covered by everyone else's tear-stained ones because of laughing too much. And George's.. George's panicked eyes.
I told him not to do it. He promised..
Then the next thing I knew, I was pulled back into a secure hug as the last bucket tipped over.
Jai..
If it wasn't for him.. He saved me. He saved me from the prank that was meant for him. The prank that George promised not to do.
Why couldn't George leave him alone? What in the bloody hell is wrong with him? Jai never did anything to him. It wasn't like George at all..
I felt a cool breeze from the window and shivered. I sighed and was about to stand up to close the window when I heard footsteps going down the stairs. I sat their frozen as the footsteps loudened and warm hazel eyes met mines.
"J-Jai.." I muttered as he sighed with relief.
"There you are!" he said, running his hand through his hair.
"How.. how did you find me?" I asked.
"A little birdie told me." he smiled nodding to the window as I heard a familiar hoot.
I turned around and saw my little owl happily flapping his wings as he sat on the window handle.
"Hi there, Jinxy." I softly cooed, like I was talking to a baby.
I stretched out my arm and he gladly flew to it. I petted his small framed head and he softly hooted.
"How did you know he was mine?" I asked, as Jai sat down next to me, taking off his school shoulder bag.
"Your notebook." he simply said, grinning as he lightly petted Jinx.
I forgot all about that! I had a huge drawing of Jinx on my Transfiguration notebook. I drew it when I was trying not to fall asleep in class. And no, I wasn't being a bad student.. I already knew the lesson. (Almost got you there, huh?)
I planted a soft peck on Jinx's beak and he happily flapped his wings. I don't know how he does it, but he always knows when something's wrong with me. It's like he was always there to watch over me. That's one of the things I loved about him. He doesn't just have gold feathers on the outside, but also a heart of gold on the inside.
"I don't have anything on me right now, Jinxy, but I'll give you a treat later on." I said as he hooted as a response.
Jinx jumped on Jai's shoulder and pecked his ear before flying out the window.
"Oww!" Jai said as he rubbed his ear and I bit back my smile.
"I think he likes you." I teased.
"I guess I should be happy that he nearly pecked my ear off." he joked and I softly laughed.
My laughter died down and I felt Jai's eyes on me. I looked up at him and quickly looked at my hands that were folded on my lap.
"You ok?" he asked and I could feel my eyes well up with tears again, but I held them back.
"Y-Yeah.." my voice cracked as I swallowed the lump in my throat.
"You sure?" he asked softly as I nodded.
I still felt his eyes on me and I couldn't help, but look up. His hazel eyes were warm and not a hint of the 'cocky' Jai showed. He looked really sincere and it made me smile.
"Why are you smiling?" he asked, looking half confused, half amused.
"Just wondering if I'm really talking to the real Jaired Evans or someone else that drank polyjuice potion." I teased.
"What do you mean?" he chuckled.
"Nothing." I sighed, smiling at him.
"You really are weird." he teased, making me laugh. "I think you inhaled way too much flour." he added as I punched him on the arm. "Ouch! There's the Leah I know." he said as I laughed.
We both laughed as Jai teased me about my bird's nest hair and ghost skin. For a while, I forgot how mad I was.
"That's another thing that I love about you." he said as our laughter died down and I looked at him, confused. "Even if something's wrong with you, you always find a way to make a situation happy and positive." he said as I blushed.
I felt myself shiver. I completely forgot that I was soaked and that the window was still open. Jai looked me with a worried face and he stood up to close the window. Then he rummaged through his bag and pulled out a red wooled jumper. He stretched it out and slipped it on my head.
"Jai! No!" I said, grabbing his wrists.
"Why?" he asked, a little too loud, making it softly echo around the place.
"I'll get it dirty.." I softly said, blushing.
He looked at me with an amused expression. "Is that what you're worried about? Getting my jumper dirty instead of getting sick?" I let out an embarrassed giggle and smile as I let him put the jumper on me. "You really are weird." he teased as a hint of warmth filled my body from the wool and the smell of jasmine and sea water filled my nose.
"Thanks Jai." I softly said as he smiled, standing up with his hand stretched out.
"Anytime." he winked as I took his hand and he pulled me up a little too close to him, our face only inches apart.
I was a little taken back and I knew he was too judging by how his eyes got slightly bigger. Just before I thought about what to say..
"You're a really good friend, Jai." I said as we stepped back from each other, awkwardly. "who would have known?" I teased, trying to lift up the mood.
"Yeah, yeah. C'mon. You gotta get washed up before dinner." he said, picking up his bag and we headed back to the common room.
