Touka fears for the worst, and to add the her fears, her husband has left her. For another woman? She thinks, then rejects the question with far too much confidence. He would never do such a thing, not after he had taken so much time to make sure his family was safe. Ken would never do that to us. Touka looks down at her swollen stomach, it isn't too big, and definitely far too small to be ready for the child to be born. Where are we, little one? Touka asks the baby and herself. As she enters a busy city, she holds her arms over her womb protectively.
"No one will harm you," Touka declares in Japanese, "but we need to find a way to live." The pregnant ghoul walks slowly and hesitantly into a large urban land full of towering buildings. The sign outside of the city reads, Starling City.

Ken walks back into the lab room he was in previously, his face clean and the smell of vomit barely lingering. He knows the stench of alcohol and sadness mingles around him, but the latter usually did. He doesn't look up from the ground when he feels the stares of everyone around him, it feels unnerving.
"Are you willing to continue?" Caitlin asks. With an exasperated sigh, Kaneki sits back atop the cot.
"Just get it over with," Kaneki mumbles. Caitlin doesn't waste time beginning the whole check up.
"I guess the best to do is ask some questions," the woman says while looking to the group, "what is your name?"
"Ken Kaneki," the ghoul says his name in the order America usually uses.
"Okay, how old are you?" Caitlin asks.
"That is challenging for me, I missed some years," Ken says with his eyebrows furrowed in thought, "but I believe I am at least twenty six." Before anyone else can ask him more, Caitlin continues:
"When was the last time you saw a doctor?"
"I haven't seen a human doctor since I was eighteen," Kaneki pauses, "but I saw a few ghoul doctors regularly. It may have been about a year ago."
"Now I'll get a little personal," the brunette says, "how many bones have you broken?"
"All 206 of them," Ken replies without a thought.
"How is your mental state?" Caitlin's pen pauses on the page as Kaneki remains silent.
"Do I need to say specifics?" He asks monotonously.
"No, here, just give me a range from 1 to 10. One being in prime mental health, and ten being-," Caitlin is interrupted by Harry,
"Ten being, a danger to society."
"I know what you'll say, but remember Jason was far worse," the voice reminds Ken as the ghoul flinches at the name of his tormentor.
"From 1 to 10," Kaneki sighs, "89."
