The white haired ghoul walks into a coffee shop called, Jitters. He finds it to be a speck of light within his dark life. Kaneki had debated working within the coffee shop, but he thought finding his next meal was more important. He orders and receives a black coffee, then he sits down in one of the cushioned seats, alone. While drinking his heavenly beverage, the door opens with a shrill ring to signal the next customer.
Ken watches two women speaking in hushed voices. One being a blonde, bespectacled wearing, beauty. She wears heeled shoes and a dress that fits to her form. Kaneki only finds her odd, especially when he listens to her quick speech. The woman she's speaking to is Iris.
Ken looks ahead, ignoring the pair. However, Iris seems to spot him and glide towards Kaneki with the other woman following behind. Once the duo are to Ken's left, Iris introduces the blonde woman to the white haired man.
"Felicity, this is Kaneki. Kaneki, this is Felicity," Iris says, "Kaneki works with Barry."
"Which job?" Felicity asks quickly.
"Both," Iris replies. The blonde woman puts her hand out for the white haired man to shake. Ken looks at her hand, then lifts his mug to his lips.
He isn't in the best of moods, especially without his sleep. Even without the full medical evaluation, he still feels violated of his privacy. He has only willingly let one person see his scars, at least his more recent ones.
"Alright," Felicity pulls her hand away, "well, it's nice to meet you. Iris hasn't told me very much, but what's your power?" Kaneki looks at the blonde woman for a moment, he evaluates her. She doesn't look too strong, however she does have more muscle than many human women, her eyes have a lively spark of intelligence, and the last thing Ken sees is the ring of her left ring-finger. After a moment of staring at the blonde, he looks away quickly. He catches sight of someone wearing all black with a large black bag.
"Sorry Iris, and Felicity," Kaneki says while keeping his eyes on the person, "but I need to do something. I'll be right back." Ken places his beloved coffee down, he then stands and leaves to follow the mysterious person. Kaneki, himself, wears a black hoodie with dark jeans and black dress shoes. He didn't get his mask back, however his hood should do the trick.Kaneki walks into the bank behind the person in all black. The person takes out an automatic rifle and shoots straight up. The customers jump and scream in fear.
"Get on the ground," a muffled feminine voice yells over the screaming. Everyone follows her command. Ken moves behind one of the columns holding up the ceiling. He listens as the door opens, now a masculine voice is speaking. More shots and screams ring out, but Kaneki sees one of the cameras destroyed ahead of him.
"How convenient," the voice chuckles. The pair seem to be occupied with stealing their money. Kaneki moves along the ground, he moves towards one of the two guards.
"Don't play hero unless you know you'll succeed," Kaneki mumbles for the officer to hear, while stopping his attempt to reach for his gun, "there are children here, after all." Without a reply or confirmation that the guards agrees, Ken stands from his place. The hood covers his hair and face from the witnesses.
"Hey!" The man yells, "I believe the nice lady told you to stay on the ground!" Kaneki remains silent and standing. Where is Barry? He wonders. The woman rushes to continue stuffing the bag with money, while her partner walks towards Kaneki with his gun raised.
"I'll shoot," the man says. From what Ken can tell, the man may be a former soldier. The white haired man lunges at the other man before he can open fire. Ken kicks the gun from the male robber's hands. Then he steps on it, crushing the barrel. Disregarding his gun, the male looks back at his partner.
"Hurry up!" He yells, before facing the awaiting ghoul. Kaneki's eye has changed with his adrenaline rush, however no one but the other man seems to see it. Confirming his assumption, the man robbing the bank moves to strike Kaneki with his fist in a trained fashion, instead the white haired man catches the man's hand, then crushes the metacarpals within four of his fingers. The man yelps in agony, and he craitals his wrist once Kaneki has let it go. Seeing her partner in pain, the woman holds her gun up towards Ken's forehead.
"What did you do?" She asks, but when she doesn't get a response she repeats almost in a scream, "what did you do!" She's in hysterics and her sense of calm seems to be slipping. Kaneki is beside her in moments, he takes the gun away from her as she starts hyperventilating. Ken places one arm behind her back and the other under her knees, in order to lift her. She calms down after a few minutes, but by then Kaneki has cuffed them with the handcuffs from the guards.
"Please," the woman begs, "we need the money for my sister in the hospital." She sobs as Ken kneels before her.
"What is her name?" He asks.
"Pamela Isley," the woman cries in despair. Kaneki nods, then he sneaks away as police cruisers start to pull up to the building."So, what were you doing just now?" Iris asks. Ken stares at her for a moment, then to Felicity.
"I stopped a robbery," Kaneki sighs when he can't think of a different excuse that holds some truth. They both look at him with wide eyes, however Felicity looks more surprised than Iris.
"Did you-," Iris starts but Ken interrupts her.
"I didn't kill anyone, if that's what you were going to ask," Kaneki says calmly, "there were children inside. I wouldn't want m-," Kaneki stops, he doesn't want to give himself false hope.
"Wait," Felicity stares at Ken, "what accent is that? It's not very prominent but it's still there," Felicity asks quickly, changing the subject.
"I'm from Japan," is all Kaneki replies with. He looks down at his cold coffee, the sight reminds him of Anteiku.
"Oh," Felicity says as the trio becomes silent, "so, this Japan or no?"
"No," Ken's short reply holds slight agitation.
"She's nosy too," the voice in Kaneki's mind grumbles. The ghoul looks around the coffee shop, everyone seems to be consumed on their beverages or conversations. The sight brings a sorrowful expression to Ken's face. He can almost see Touka serving customers, and Nishiki teasing her to the point she restrains herself from punching him.
"-neki," Iris' voice interrupts his thoughts, "Kaneki." The white haired man stares at Barry's wife for a moment, before blinking in an attempt to rid himself of his thoughts.
"We need food," the voice in Ken's head says. Kaneki can feel the pain of hunger rising. He looks at Iris before lowly asking,
"Do you know any places that are known for finding suicide victims?" Felicity looks at him with an odd expression that he doesn't have the mind to decipher.
"Yeah, um," Iris replies nervously, "at the edge of town there's a warehouse near STAR Labs." Without a moment of hesitation, Kaneki leaves the coffee shop to hopefully find his next meal.Words~1243
