"Lacey, I'm home!" Jae sang obnoxiously as he busted open the door to his sisters room.

"Oh my god!" She whined, "you're so loud! And could a bitch knock!? Get out!" She shot up from her desk and began shooing away her brother.

Jae frowned as he leaned all his weight on his little sister as she attempted to push him out of the doorway. "Wow after a long day being awesome this is the disrespect I receive from my own flesh and blood- in my own home. I feel attacked. I feel unloved."

"I don't care what you feel as long as you don't feel it in my personal space!" Lacey continued to put all of her effort into getting rid of him.

Jae ran a hand through his blonde hair. "Brian sends his undying love to you, and requests your presence at our next show."

"Oh my god if I go will you leave me alone!?" Lacey mutters admitting defeat.

Chuckling Jae leaned against the doorframe. "I don't know why you thought that whole shoving thing would work I mean you're weak as hell."

"So are you." Lacey shot back.

"Okay okay settle down." Jae muttered as he turned to leave.

Rolling her eyes his sister called, "when's your stupid show?"

Jae smiled, "tomorrow afternoon."

Lacey's facial expression slumped instantly. "Jae!!! You know I have plans!"

He laughed as he shuffled toward his room, "sounds like a personal problem!" Then the door slammed.

Clenching her jaw Lacey slammed her own door and headed back to her desk where an array of pencils, charcoal coated tissues, and eraser bits laid about. She looked at her sketchbook laying amidst the mess and frowned. She had been practicing drawing people realistically, since that was a popular art style right now. Her mentor had told her to suppress her artistic wants and focus on client demand. She hated it. Lacey flopped down on her beanbag chair and examined the wall of pictures and paintings alike that scattered the wall behind her short desk. She felt so backed up like she was containing a flood inside of her and it was making her bitter. She used to go to her brothers shows a lot when they were younger. But as time went by her families focus fell solely on her brother. Her parents never liked the idea of having an unreliable job like a musician, but compared to her profession of choice, Jae was an angel. Lacey wanted to own a tattoo parlor and give people tattoos. That was her decision since sixth grade and she had been putting in the time ever since.

This year she had become the apprentice of an amazing graphic artist in the industry who was helping to "mold her" into a professional whatever that means. Lacey looked at the trash can by her desk as it overflowed with dead inspiration. All the pressure to do stuff she hated was making her feel sick. She was sick of this room, sick of this house, yet she couldn't convince herself to take a break and leave. She'd committed so wholeheartedly to this hermit life of focusing on her art and it was leading her nowhere. She didn't want the embarrassment of letting her parents think they were right. She felt like a bird in a cage. She looked at the charcoal sketch on her desk. "A bird in a cage." She murmured to herself. She looked over to the mirror on the edge of her desk. Charcoal and graphite covered her hands and stained her cheeks. Her black hair was in a messy braid that fell over her shoulder haphazardly. She looked and felt like a mess.

Bing, her phone lit up happily.

Lacey frowned as she went to reply.

She sighed and shook her head. Clearing her throat she belted out, "Jae what the hell did you do!?"

"Shut up, Lacey I'm trying to play Fortnite!" Was the only reply she got.
