"Lady Elizabeth you can sit next to my brother." Thor gestured to two empty seats on the right side of the table.
"Thor." Jane whispered harshly, earning a confused glance in her direction. "I don't feel comfortable letting my baby sister sit next to a war criminal."
"Jane, she will be fine." Thor reassured her with a hand on the small of her back. "Loki has changed. He's doing much better now."
"Just because he's no longer locked up doesn't necessarily mean he's changed." Jane muttered in an annoyed tone under her breath, but Thor didn't seem to catch it.
I sighed, seeing the frustration on my sister's face, and paced over towards her.
"Jane, it's one meal. I'll be okay."
"I can't stand to have you anywhere near him, Liz." Jane whispered so Thor couldn't hear. "What if he hurts you?"
"I won't let that happen." I replied.
"No," Jane shook her head. "I won't let that happen."
"Already conspiring against me, I see."
Our heads whipped around to see a tall man in black and green leather sauntering his way into the dining hall. He had a twinkle in his eye that hinted he had a mischievous plan at work and what seemed like a permanent smirk plastered on his lips. As he approached, Jane took a step closer to me, as if to shield my body from his prying eyes.
"Hello, Jane." The man smirked at my sister with playful blue green eyes.
"Loki." Jane replied in a flat tone.
Oh, so this was Loki. The infamous war criminal who destroyed New York.
"And who might this lovely woman be?" Loki's eyes drifted towards me, a curious look behind them.
"This is Jane's younger sister, Elizabeth." Thor replied, stepping up beside his brother.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, pet." Loki grinned, holding out his hand for me to take.
Hesitantly, after looking at Thor for reassurance, I placed my palm in his. Loki immediately brought the back of my hand to his lips, placing a soft kiss on my skin. A tingly feeling seemed to carry from my hand, all the way down my arm, and through the rest of my body. I pulled my hand back quickly, not wanting to let him see the shiver rake over me.
"I can't say the same." I replied under my breath, but Loki's keen ears caught it instantly.
So much for that.
"Your sister has been breeding you to hate me, I see." He chuckled, his green eyes staring intensely at me.
"I didn't have to." Jane sneered. "She was alive when you tried to take over. She knows of the terror and death that you caused."
"I see." Loki's smirk never left his lips.
"Why don't we all sit down?" Thor cut in, obviously trying to ease the conversation. "The servers will be in with the first course in just a moment."
I wearily looked at Jane before passing around the table and sliding into the seat across from her. As I sat down, Loki took his place beside me with a small smile. Not long later, Lady Sif and the warriors three seated themselves at the table along with King Odin and Queen Frigga.
