The next day, Harry, Ron, and Hermione stood in line waiting to receive their schedules for the year. As they waited in line, they spoke excitedly about what classes they wanted to take, Hermione the most enthusiastic.

"I'm taking Defense, charms, transfiguration, herbology, astronomy, history of magic, potions, ancient runes, and care of magical creatures" Hermione said. "I dropped arithmancy."

"I dropped divination from last year" Ron said.

"You're not taking any other electives besides care of magical creatures?" Hermione asked. Ron shook his head.

"Plus, I have two free periods now because I'm only taking eight classes" Ron said. Harry almost shook his head but stopped himself. Ron was going to regret his choices in the future.

"How about you Harry?" Hermione asked.

"I'm thinking of dropping divination and taking up ancient runes maybe" Harry said. Ron looked surprised.

"You're taking an extra class?" Ron said. "Why?"

"Ancient runes sounds kind of interesting" Harry said. Hermione looked exciting.

"Perfect! Now we'll have that class together!' Hermione practically squealed. Ron, on the other hand, glared at Percy.

"Why would you take an extra class?" Ron asked. "It's more work!"

"Yeah but you learn more" Harry said. "I'd rather fail and know more than pass and be stupid." Ron didn't answer and turned back around and faced Mcgonagall, who was handing out schedules to kids.

Ten minutes later, they were at the front of the line. "Mr. Potter" McGonagall said. "Are you taking any new classes this year?"

"I'm dropping divination and taking up ancient runes this year. All the rest of my classes are the same" Harry said. McGonagall nodded and waved her wand over a blank sheet of paper. Harry's schedule appeared on it.

"Have a good year" she said. Harry nodded at her and took the paper. Ron got his schedule and caught up with Harry. He took a look at Harry's paper and then back at his.

"We have every class together, except for ancient runes, because I'm not taking that" Ron said. "First class is potions." They both groaned.

That night

Harry sat in the common room finishing the 16 inch essay on the uses of ginger roots in potions that Snape had assigned them. Ron, on the other hand, was just starting because he had been playing with a fanged frisbee that Fred and George had snuck into the school.

"Hey Harry" he said, "Can I copy yours when you finish?" Harry wanted to say no and tell Ron that he should've been more responsible but then he would sound too much like Hermione. Plus, Ron was his friend.

"Sure" he said.  Ron scooted over and started copying Harry's essay. Soon, Harry was finished and he left his paper there for Ron to finish copying. He sat back in his chair and waited for Ron to finish up.

As Harry waited, Hermione came downstairs. "What are you guys doing?"

"Just finishing up some homework" Ron said. Hermione looked proud for a couple seconds before she noticed that it was Harry's work that Ron was copying.

"I thought you were doing homework" she said.

"I am" Ron said, wincing at Hermione's tone. Hermione shook her head and faced Harry.
