The beginning of the chapter is kind of like a rundown of what had been  going on in the school for the first two months.

It had been a quick first two months of school for Harry. He was easily at the top of almost all of his classes. He had even managed be average in potions. Nothing had changed between him and Snape, though.

What had surprised him, though, was his friendship with some of the Slytherins.

The first one was with Daphne Greengrass. Ever since that day in defense against the dark arts then Daphne had just happened to sit around Harry in almost all of the classes they had together. When they had to talk to each other in class, though, she would always treat him coldly. Over time, though, they started talking more and more.

At first, some of the Slytherins hated the fact that Harry was talking to Daphne, who was considered the prettiest girl in their year. As the year progressed, though, the impossible happened. A couple of the Slytherins befriended a few Gryffindors. It started when Daphne was sitting across from Harry in potions and Harry was teasing Daphne. Harry told a joke and her best friend Tracey Davis laughed.

Since then, Harry and Tracey talked all the time and that meant that Harry and Daphne were forced to talk as well. Slowly but surely, the ice cracked between the two and they became friends. That led to  Percy talking to Theodore Nott and Blaise Zabini.

Harry had assumed that all Slytherins were like Draco. Stuck up and conceited. He was very wrong, though. The Slytherins were just like the Gryffindors. Harry found that out when he made friends with Nott and Zabini. They were in the library and they were struggling with McGonagall's transfiguration homework. Harry came over and offered to help them. They didn't want his help but they had transfiguration in two periods so they took his help. As he helped them, they found that they had a lot of stuff in common. They ended up going to the library and doing their homework together almost every day.

Of course, it was Hogwarts, so the news of Harry befriending Slytherins got around extremely fast. Harry didn't care, though. Even though people would whisper about it in the halls, it didn't bother him. The two people who cared the most were Ron Weasley and Draco Malfoy.

When Ron heard about Harry befriending the Slytherins he went off on Harry in the boys dormitory.

"They're our enemies, Harry! We are not supposed to like them!" he had yelled at Harry.

"Why are they our enemies Ron? Not all the Slytherins are like Draco, Ron" Harry argued. "You're just prejudiced.

"I'm not prejudiced, it's the truth! Listen Harry you can't be friends with them. It's against everything that Gryffindor stands for!" Ron shouted. Neville, Dean, and Seamus just watched them.

"Yeah? And who made that rule!" Harry growled. Ron had no answer. He just shook his head.

"You, of all people, you. The boy who lived" Ron said. He hopped into his bed and closed his curtains.

Harry had just sighed and went to sleep.

After that, things were icy between Harry and Ron. They were formal but they didn't talk much. Whenever Harry was talking to a Slytherin, Ron would leave the general area. Hermione didn't mind Harry talking to the Slytherins. She didn't really have anything against them. He would always catch her glaring at Daphne Greengrass, though.
