I do come into work the next morning, and as cheerful as ever.
It seemed like my temperature and my cold went away over night, and I walk through the doors of the office.
"Hana!" They all look at me as I walk inside and they all surround me. "We missed you!"
"Hana," Addie starts, pulling me into a hug. "You don't need a man! If you can single handedly run the best video game company in the world, then you can do anything!"
I lightly smile at her as she pulls away from me. "Thanks."
"There's a box on your desk in your office," Fei informs me. "I was told to deliver it to you."
"Oh, okay," I smile as I head towards my room.
"Glad to see you're back at work, Miss Jett," I feel an arm drape over my shoulder and I look to see Drake walking with me.
"I'm glad to be back, Mr. Bardot," I smile, still allowing him to have his arm on me.
For some reason I don't push him away like I normally would, but I think it's because we've gotten closer.
He holds the door open for me, and I walk on inside, giving him a smile as I do.
There's a medium sized package on my desk, and I walk around behind it and examine it.
There's no return address on it, and I raise my eyebrow as I pick it up to shake it.
There's a shuffling noise coming from inside it, and I sit it back down onto my desk.
"Who's it from?" Drake asks, taking a seat in one of the fluffy chairs.
"It doesn't say," I inform as I reach for a pair of scissors.
I slice through the packing tape on the top, and open it.
My eyes drop down to look at the contents inside, and my face drops all expression.
"What's in it?" He asks, trying to lean up to peer inside the box.
"Pictures..." I mumble. "Pictures and gifts..."
"Huh?"
Inside the box must be every single picture me and Jackson have taken together. There's also a necklace that I gave him, and other little trinkets that I've given as gifts over the years.
My jaw clenches tight, and I can feel my eyes begin to water.
My hands immediately pick up the box and dump the contents on the floor. I toss the box to the side and begin stomping on the photos.
"Stupid jackass," I talk to myself, ripping one of the photos in half.
I'm about to stop on another one, when something catches my eye.
It's a red flash drive that has a note attached to it. I pick it up and examine it, turning it around in my hands.
"I never gave him a flash drive, so what's this?" I ask myself.
I turn the note around that was attached to it and I read what's scribbled on it.
'The game looks like shit. I don't know why we bothered to try and take it.'
"Is this the flash drive from development?" I ask Drake, the wheels inside my head turning.
"Let me see," He takes it from my hand and examines it. "Yes it is! It has our logo on the side!"
"Jackson Star..." I mumble.
"What did you say?" He asks, looking at me.
"The CEO of AvaStar's last name is Star," I put the pieces together. "Jackson's last name is Star. Our flash drive was with this stuff."
I look at Drake.
"He was working with AvaStar the whole time!" I run my hand through my hair frustratingly. "He was using me the whole time just so he could get that flash drive and so he could get anything to do with our company!"
"Hold on, Hana," Drake stops me. "You don't know that."
"Think about it!" I persist. "Every time we went on a date before, he'd always ask me about how the game was coming along. Don't you also find it convenient that he suddenly ended our relationship as soon as the flash drive went missing?"
"I have to tell development!" I push past Drake as I bolt out the door.
It's always bustling in development, and it quiets down as soon as I barge inside.
"AvaStar had our flash drive!" I announce. "They saw the whole plans, and designs, everything!"
This causes everyone to gasp and look around at each other, asking various questions.
"Miss. Hana, what are we going to do?" I hear someone ask from the back.
I stop and think. What can we do? It's not like we can change the game.
A light bulb goes off in my head.
"...Change the game," I talk to myself. "We have to change the game!"
"Change the game?! Miss. Hana, we've already gone so far, changing the game would be too much of a task!"
"I know, I know," I calm them down. "I'm not asking for the whole thing to be changed, just change....the plot! It's an action, right? How about we change the genre to a romantic action?"
They all look around each other and begin questioning each other.
"You guys work for the top video game company in America!" I motivate them. "I know that it will be difficult, but we can't just trash the whole thing just because of those dicks down the road who think that they know what we're doing here!"
"AvaStar has been butting it's nose in ever since my dad was here, and they've already pissed me off! So I say, we make a game that's going to knock their socks off!"
They still look around at each other, unsure about whether they can do this or not.
I sigh, mumbling to myself. "If we pull this off, I'll give you the company credit card and drinks are on me for a whole night."
They all suddenly rush back to their computers, violently typing and editing away.
"That's all it took?" I ask. "Just tell them that they get free drinks?"
"So what are you going to do for us?" I turn around to see the office members standing at the door. "We have to work hard too, don't we get a reward?"
I think for a moment.
"How about a picnic with tons of food?" I ask. "We could each bring in something homemade and eat together."
They all nod at each other and I smile, satisfied with their approval.
