My next day at school was going to be hard, and I knew that because I had a plan. I was going to ignore my best friends for...well as long as I needed to. If Wesley knew exactly what type of a person I was in school chances were so did Amber and Veronica. I mean they practically spent their entire lives with me, they obviously should have known and they should have told me about it.
As soon as I stepped foot inside the school I was greeted by the two people I wasn't supposed to talk to.
"Hey Em! Where did you go to last night? We were worried sick" said Amber.
"Yeah, no message, and no phone call. I thought you were supposed to be the smart one!" said Veronica.
I stared into their eyes whom were full of genuine concern.
God could they get any more...fake!
Instead of trying to argue with them I made a quick turn to my right and started for my biology class. It took everything in me to not talk back to them, but it was worth it.
The day was a blur, and I realized more then ever how unknown I was. I mean I remember everyone coming up to us to say 'hi' every morning, but now that I reckon not one person came up to me. Not one 'hi' or 'hello' to me, Emma, the smartest of the smartest.
I sighed as I sank into my seat in chemistry. This was the one class that I didn't have with Amber and Veronica. Truth be told I thought ignoring them would be easy but it was honestly one of the hardest things that I ever did. This was the one period where I could actually relax since most of the people here didn't care about who was who.
Mr. Russel handed the class a surprise lab that we were supposed to do today. Everyone groaned, but I smiled. One thing about being me was that I was always prepared. We were supposed to partner up, but there was somebody short today so it was just me. I set all of my ingredients on my lab desk, and started to set up my beakers and test tubes when somebody who I totally forgot was in this class came up to me.
"Hey" whispered Wesley.
I ignored him and poured my first chemical into the test tube.
"Look I don't know what happened to you last night, but I wanted to know if you were okay" he asked.
I set my test tube down a little harder then I should have and looked Wesley in the eye.
"No Wesley, I'm not okay. A whole series of events just occurred, and it just so happens that you were the main cause of it. I didn't realize that I was such a big- such a big....loser until now. And I just want to try and set things the way that they should be, but I-I can't. I'm stumped. I- god I don't even know what I want anymore!" I exclaimed.
Wesley stared at me with wide eyes.
"What did I do?" he asked.
I slapped my forehead.
"Sometimes I forget who I'm talking to" I mumbled.
"Huh?" he asked.
"You called me fat! And ugly!" I said in a firmer tone.
"What? No, I didn't mean that you were ugly. I mean your really just a normal girl who isn't that...open? I don't know, something along those lines" said Wesley.
I took a deep breath and decided to let this matter go, besides Wesley wasn't the one to be having such an emotional conversation with.
"Do you not have anything else to do? Like perhaps work on this lab that is due at the end of this class" I asked annoyed.
"Nah. My girls got that covered" he said pointing behind him.
I looked over his shoulder to see a sleek girl with raven colored hair trying to mix two separate chemicals together in a beaker too small for the amount. And guessing from her indecisive gestures they probably weren't supposed to be mixed together anyways.
"Righhht" I said in a very slow tone still peaking over his shoulder.
*********
The school bell rang and boy was I happy. An end to a horrible day at last! As I was packing my books I overheard Mr. Russel and Wesley talking, and not to say I was eavesdropping. It just so happened that they were talking when the class room was good to pitch drop silent.
"Wesley do you know how far behind you are?"
"Yes Mr. Russel I know that I have a lot to catch up on, but I just need some time. Please"
"I'm sorry son, but I tried. You need to have your 5 unfinished tests completed by the end of this month, otherwise you're going to fail your senior year. And it's not like I didn't try, I did. That's why I am excluding your marks for your missing assignments, which there were 15 of. But the tests are worth a major portion of your final grade, and I won't be able to do anything with that. Do you understand?"
"Y-yes sir, I'll try my best"
"Good to hear that, but as a penalty of not completing these tests you are temporarily suspended from the school football team"
"What! You can't do that. Mr. Russel, I worked my butt off trying to get onto it and now that it's final year scholarships are being awarded. I need to be there to prove myself!"
"Like I said, I'm sorry son but whats there is there. You're going to have to figure out a way"
And with that Mr. Russel walked away leaving a very angry and frustrated Wesley alone. Well...almost alone.
Wesley quickly packed his books clearly struggling to put them into his bag, and stormed off. I don't know why, but I actually felt bad for him. No matter how much of an idiot he was, and how stupidly annoying he was, Wesley was just a normal kid. He started playing football at the age of 5, and I know that for a fact because I was there. I was there when he scored his first goal, and when he joined his first team. He was good. In fact he was really good. It was such a shame that his talent was being thrown away like that. Unless.....
