Inevitable // Zach Mitchell // [2]

Chapter Three

Owen and I are the first to arrive at the airport runway because Owen has to be early for literally everything.

As we are putting our luggage on board Zia and Franklin pull up.

"Let's go Dino Trio!" I yell while running over to them and helping Zia with one of her bags.

Franklin was noticeably nervous when he saw the plane we would be flying on, "You call that a plane? My cousin has a drone bigger than that!"

As we neared my brother Zia's eyes widen, "Hold up, that's your brother?! Why have I never seen him before?!"

"Probably because we never had a 'bring your brother to work day'" I laugh. "Owen, these are my friends Franklin and Zia; Guys this is my brother Owen."

"Aw I didn't know you had friends." Owen smiles.

I can't think of a good comeback because it is way too early in the morning for me to be witty so I just respond with a classic middle finger.

"Yeah. Square jaw. Good bone structure. Tall. Muscles. I don't date men, but if I did, it would be you." Zia states.

I snort, "Zia is the paleo-veterinarian that will be joining us."

"Oh, that's cool." Owen says awkwardly but I can tell that he is flattered by Zia's bold statement.

We all clamber onto the plane and wait for Claire and Zach to arrive.

I still haven't found a way to tell Owen that Zach is coming so right now I'm just praying for a miracle. Maybe Owen won't care that the boy who shattered my heart and caused me to cry myself to sleep on a number of occasions is coming with us. Here's hoping.

I'm sat across from Zia with a perfect view of where the cars pull up.

It's not long before a black Range Rover appears with Claire and Zach hopping out of it.

"Here we go." I mutter while lowering my head to stare at my feet.

Zia whips her head around and sees them approaching, "Oh shit."

Claire gets on the plane first and Owen looks happy to see her, "I was beginning to think you weren't ever gonna show." he smiles. However his smile fades rather quickly as Zach appears right behind her.

"What the hell?" My brother shouts while rising up from his seat.

Zach's face turns white with fear. In fairness he should be scared, my brother is kind of a badass.

Claire throws her hands up in an effort to protect her nephew, "Look Owen, Zach has to help Franklin with the tracking system so that's why he's coming. Plus the kids can be civil with one another so you can too."

Owen just clenches his jaw and goes back to his seat across the aisle from me.

Claire takes the seat across from Owen while Franklin and Zach are behind me.

We're clearing for take off and suddenly all you can hear on the plane is Franklin frantically trying to fasten his seat belt.

Owen turns in his chair to look at him, "Nervous flyer?"

"Would you get on a 2,000 pound horse that's been abused all it's life?" Franklin retorts back.

Owen narrows his eyes, "I rode my motorcycle through the jungle with a pack of raptors."

Franklin's face drops, "We're not compatible."

I roll my eyes, "You sure do love bringing that story up any chance you get? don't ya bro?"
