I didn't mean to. I'm so sorry! Please, don't do this! I never meant to hurt anyone! Please stop! What are you doing? NO! NO PLEASE DON'T! STOP! PLEASE STOP!! NOO!!!!
I wake up that morning in shock. I look at my door and see it's still closed and locked.
'Okay Sarah, just breathe. Breathe! I need to get out of this house. I need air or caffeine.' I think to myself.
I pick out a nice outfit, put it on and look at myself in the mirror, but I don't know who it is. All I know is that I have something with sparkles on and it shouldn't be in my closet. I walk to the closet and put a random sweatshirt on. I look around and can't find my bag anywhere. I remember it's downstairs and go to the door. Before I reach for the doorknob, I hesitate. I slowly unlock the door and open it. Nobody is home. I sigh and run downstairs to find my purse on a chair.
I open the door and a blast of fall wind hits me. I love the smell of New York in the fall. It has a certain uniqueness that I can't quite name. The walk to Claire's Coffee Shop feels like an hour when it's merely ten minutes. It's a part of my everyday routine. The traffic this morning is insane! It's like a herd of horses trampling over each other.
I can see the coffee shop! I feel like if I stretch my arm long enough I can open the door, grab it and go! If only it was that simple. I look to my left and to my right. No pollution makers in sight!
I feel someone staring at me. I don't know if I should turn around or just keep going. I nonchalantly turn my head and see someone walking towards me with his hood up and looking down. I feel startled so I cross the street and enter the store. To my advantage, there's no line!
"Hey Sarah!" says Martin. The cashier and I are on a first name basis.
"Hi Marty." I say quietly. In my mind I am very outgoing. But when I'm in front of people, I feel like an ice cube.
"The usual?" says Martin.
"Yes."
"Sherry! One soy latte with two shots of espresso." Martin screams in the back. I move to the side so the next customer can order. Finally, my cup of heaven! I turn around to leave with my cup of joy and see a face that made the joy disappear. Olivia Thompson, also known as the devil with invisible horns. She has tortured me since freshmen year. We graduated High School five months ago and still, she is so immature.
Her father owns Thompson Records. It's a huge record company in lower Manhattan. My father worked there for a long time until Olivia's father fired him for whatever reason. Since then he's been drinking and taking every problem out on me.
"Nice choice. Hide all of the shame under baggy clothes." She says as she walks past me, pushing her shoulder into mine.
I feel the tears gathering in my eyes and quickly push the door open, hitting a man and spilling my entire coffee on him. He lifts his arms up as if to say 'Really!' I feel like I'm going to explode into tears and to make matters worse, I feel my face turning red. I look away from the man's coffee filled chest and look down.
"Klutz!" Olivia says from the line.
I feel the man look up and stare at Olivia. I then feel him stare at me.
"I'm really sorry. I-I didn't see you." I say softly. He puts his arms down and looks around for a minute.
"Uh... It's fine. There are plenty other shirts in the universe." He says. His voice is deep and somewhat calming. I was about to look up to see who the beautiful voice belonged to until Olivia pushed her shoulder into me, making me fall into the man.
"Sorry! Didn't see you there." She says walking out.
Again... I was an ice cube. I feel the man look down at me again.
"Are you alright?" He asks. I don't respond. I back away from his chest and keep my head down. I walk out the door and run down the street.
