Sarah
3:47 a.m.
I feel my eyes flutter open and all I see is darkness. I feel a blanket over me and something in my hand. I look down and see a formation of a human, Noah, kneeling at my bedside, asleep with his head on the side of the bed, holding my hand.
"Noah." I whisper. It's so hard to talk and I don't know why! I see Noah lift his head up and look at me. He chuckles with happiness and kisses my forehead. After about three seconds he realizes what he's doing and stops. I guess he's trying to keep his cool, so he puts his forehead on mine.
"W-why... why did y-you..."
"Shh." He says, cutting me off and keeping his forehead on mine. "It's okay. You're okay."
That calms me down. Just him being with me is calming. With all of my strength I put my hand on his back and hold him over me.
"I'm so sorry." He says.
"Why?"
"I said I didn't care and you ran into the middle of the road."
"That's my fault. Not yours." We are both silent for a minute.
I look up and I see his eyes closed. I feel so attached to him even though I barely know anything about him. I feel like I could tell him everything. I want to tell him everything. I just can't find the words.
"Sarah?"
"Mmhmm?"
"Who hit you with a glass bottle?" I'm shocked. I know he fixed my arm but I didn't think he would ask me that. Create a diversion Sarah!
"I fell on it when I was going down the stairs."
"You and I both know that's not true."
Great.
"I wish I could tell you." I say quietly. I feel tears in my eyes. I try to hold in my sobs but one comes flying out. Noah opens his eyes and stares at me. He sees the tear streaming down my face and wipes it away. I open my eyes again and look at him. He backs up and sat on the other side of the bed. I move to go sit up but the back of my head hurts.
"Easy!" Noah says as he helps me sit up. He reaches over and turns on the light. He looks back over at me and observes my face. He wipes the rest of my tears away and holds my face in his hands.
"Sarah. I need you to stop crying." I nod. "Tell me who did that to you."
"I can't." I say, still crying.
"What, was it a boyfriend?"
"No!"
"An ex-boyfriend?"
"No!"
"Sarah, if it was, tell me who and I'll kick his ass!"
"Noah, it's not!"
"Then who is it?!"
"My father!" I yell. He's silent. I can't believe I told him. I could see the disbelief on his face. "Look it's a really long story and frankly I don't understand it myself but... I'm not ready to tell anyone yet. Can you please just respect that?"
"Yeah." He says. Noah remains quiet for a few second until the question that has been churning in his brain comes out.
"Is your life in danger?" I just stare at him. He know the answer.
"I want you to stay here tonight okay?" He says.
"It's almost four in the morning. If I don't go home now, then... I don't even want to think about it."
He looks like he feels sorry for me. Like he wants to help me... or kill my father. Wait until I tell him the rest.
