Sarah
One day later
Thank God that's over! I got up on stage with my partner about an hour ago and she totally messed up! I remembered all of my lines when she couldn't even remember her stage directions! I felt so accomplished on stage! One point for me! I am so out of this state. My phone rings and I answer it.
"Hello?"
"Sarah? Are you sitting?" It's Ashley. My heart sinks and I sit on the edge of the hotel bed.
"Why?"
"Okay. I need you to take a deep breathe." I feel like I'm going to throw up. He's dead! Noah Brooks Anderson is dead! He must have been in so much pain and I wasn't there for him! He must've been so alone and scared! Oh my God!
"Are you sitting?"
"You don't have to say it Ashley." I say holding back tears. "I already know."
"You do?"
"Yes, um. I'm on my way back so... we can make arrangements for him when... when I get there."
"Arrangements? Hang on. One second."
I can't believe this is happening. He's gone forever. We didn't even get to say goodbye. I didn't get to tell him how sorry I was and have him wipe away my tears and kiss me. I can't stay on the phone with her.
"Listen, Ash. I have to go. My flight..." I am interrupted by the sound of a wince and a cough. I hear a deep breath, then a whisper.
"Hey beautiful." The voice says. I can't tell if it's a man or a woman. Is it Ashley playing with me? I automatically assume so and in return, become defensive.
"Ashley it's not funny."
"It's n-not Ashley." I gasp. It's not possible. This isn't real. How could this be happening? I thought he was dead.
"N-Noah?" I ask with a shaky voice. I hear a slight chuckle and then a soothing whisper.
"It's me." I begin to laugh in disbelief.
"Oh my God! I can't believe it!" Then, my brain comes back to reality. "Wait... you must be in so much pain! Did a doctor come in yet? Don't talk, it must hurt. Is it hard to breathe? Can you see clearly?"
"Sarah." He whispers, interrupting me.
"What?" I say concerned.
"Shhh."
"Right. Okay. I'm on my way home! I'll be on the next flight, okay?"
"Okay."
"I want you to rest for me, alright?"
"Alright."
I smile as wide as I can. "I love you, Noah Brooks Anderson."
"I-I love you Sarah Marie DiCarlo." Ashley takes the phone.
"How did you know?" She asks in surprise. I answer as I walk to the taxi.
"I thought you were going to tell me that he was dead." I say laughing.
"Well, he's not!"
"I know." I sigh with relief and repeat myself in a loud, happy tone.
"Don't miss your plane!" She says. She hangs up and I run to the taxi, happier than I've been in years.
