Sarah

Three Weeks Later

It's Christmas!! Holidays and I have a love hate relationship. I love this time of year because everyone's nice to each other and it seems like people care. I hate this time of year because... well, does it really need explaining? I haven't had anyone to really share it with in years.

This year I'm spending Christmas with Noah. I didn't know, but his mom gave him the house as a graduation present. My mom would've never done that! She probably would've given me a pat on the back.

There's a knock at my bedroom door and I sit up. Noah walks in.

"Merry Christmas!" He says running to my bed and hugging me until I fell on my back laughing. Still on top of me, he starts to kiss me neck.

"Noah!" I yell laughing. He looks at me and kisses the tip of my nose.

"Merry Christmas." I respond. He looks at me with his gorgeous green eyes and I feel a sudden sense of warmth.

"Come on!" He says, taking my hands and bringing me downstairs. "Ready for this?" Once downstairs I see a Christmas tree, entirely decorated, which wasn't there yesterday!

"When did you do this?"

"Last night. I wanted to surprise you."

"You succeeded." He leans down and kisses the top of my head. I walk around the perimeter of the tree and see silver tinsel, candy canes, different color ceramic balls, ornaments and a star at the top. The tree's not even fake! It's real and smells like pine! I turn around to look at Noah with the widest smile in the world and see a box in his hands. The box isn't as small as an engagement ring box but it isn't as large as a shoe box.

"What's that?" I ask.

"It's just a little something." He says handing it to me. I smile and just stare at him. "Are you going to open it?" I untie the ribbon and give it to Noah to hold. Noah, being Noah, takes the ribbon and ties my hair up with it. I open the box and see tissue paper. I take out the tissue paper to reveal a smaller box.

"This is like a scavenger hunt!"

"That's the whole idea!" He says from behind me, still playing with my hair. I open the box and see a note.

Dear Sarah,

I know this isn't the original, but it's the best I could find in three weeks notice. Merry Christmas my love!

"What is this about?" I ask, looking up. Noah hands me another small box.

"Here." He states. I take it and open it to see an ornament. But not just any ornament, the angel ornament my mother gave me. In shock and scared I would say something stupid, I put my hand over my mouth, holding back tears.

"W-where did you get this?" I ask in a soft voice.

"Online. Do you know how hard it is to find a decent angel?"

"Can't say I do."

"Extremely. But I found mine." It takes me a moment to realize what he's talking about. He's talking about me! I'm his angel. I turn around to face him and plant my lips on his. He feels warm and comforting, almost like a safety net. "I almost forgot! Turn it around." He says, smiling.

I take out the angel and turn it around. There's an engraving that reads:

SARAH'S ANGEL : JULIE DiCARLO

"I can't believe you did this." I say, looking in his eyes. I take the ornament by the string and look at Noah. "Will you help me put it on?" He takes one side of the string and I take the other. Carefully, we place it on a thick branch close to the top. My eyes are fixated on the shinning ornament while Noah's eyes are fixated on me. I feel so bad that I didn't get him anything and he's done all of this for me.
