After what happened with ayato, kaneki had been paying way more attention to ayato's well being and hunger, making sure to never lose sight of his mate. It kinda weirded out ayato but he wasn't complaining, he had wanted all of kaneki's attention the whole time they were together. But come on..

"are you eating properly?" tho kaneki always watched ayato, ayato watched kaneki aswell. "I'm fine, I manage to get a bite." kaneki's half-assed answer made ayato pout, at his response, not liking it, he wanted kaneki to eat!. Ayato pulled and pinched at kaneki's cheeks, scolding him " you idiot you need to eat more! a bite will only last a week goddammit if you need me to come out there with you I will, I'm tired of just sitting here and waiting for you, do you know how worried I get? would if you.. dont...come back.." kaneki leaned up after just staring at ayato for like a god damn minute, ayato held his breath as kaneki kissed him ever so gently, trying to hold back the tears at the thought of kaneki never coming back. kaneki pulled away caressing ayato's face "what do you take me for? I'm always gonna come back to you, nothing can keep me away, the whole galaxy could come between us and it'll only take me 10 minutes to get to you." ayato chuckled sadly "I'm just scared, I'm sorry but I can't let you go alone, you can't stop me from following you either, you know?" Kaneki sighed and stood up, "come with me ayato" ayato stood up grabbing kaneki's hand smiling all cheeky like.

they walked outside on the balcony, it was currently 2:00 am, walking through the dim house the only light source is the moon shining through a cracked Curtin. "you know I love you, so listen to me please." "if only bullshit is going to come out of your mouth, then no." kaneki put his hand over ayatos mouth "haven't heard that sass in a long time" kaneki chuckled, ayato blushed. "but...if I ever were to die..." kaneki slipped his hand around ayatos neck and lightly squeezed, "Don't you ever go looking for love from someone else." Ayato felt shivers run up his spine, staring at kaneki's dark emotionless eye's. "...what would you do if i did? hmm? you'll be dead. " Ayato growled back, kaneki only tightened his grip. "oh~ how feisty of you ayato~" kaneki laughed and then quickly went back to glaring heart eyes into ayatos soul. ayatos eyes went soft as he was losing conciseness, realizing kaneki was still squeezing. harder and harder, not hesitating. "w-what a-ar-e you t-trying to d-d-do, y-you h-half ass.." ayato than began to claw at kanekis hands desperately trying to break free from the grip. Ayato went limp staring at the floor wide-eyed 'he's really gonna kill me..?' he thought then suddenly ayato fell quickly to the floor gasping for air, it hurt to breathe, it felt like pure hell, his throat was on fire. Ayato put his hand against his throat "what the fuck?!!". kaneki stared down at his own hands like 'like what the fuck' "...ayato, my love, I'm so sorry...would if we're better off dead?"
