"This year we added a little surprise, are you both excited for it?" said the interviewer holding the mic out so the girls could talk. After they had entered the building it was relatively a quick process at getting their numbers because Sydney had insisted on filling out the forms ahead of time. Now they stood getting there interview over with.
Sydney nodded to the camera, smiling like she had done this before "we can't wait; I personally am hoping that they have a new celebrity guest". The interviewer, Shaun, practically pounced on the opportunity to ask who she liked "haha, wouldn't you like to know" Sydney said leaning in and winking at him.
Ava watched on in shock, while the feeling that she belonged on the sidelines continued to grow. Sydney had taken the show the moment the camera light came on. Even before that actually, it was more like the moment they stepped in the arena's doors.
"How about you" Shaun nodded to Ava, smiling before looking back at the camera. She blinked, unable to say a word. Sydney nudged her but Ava stayed quiet, physically unable to open her mouth and speak. Sydney laughed "I guess that would be a no then, don't worry guys I know who it is" she said, leaning towards the camera and whispering.
The interviewer shook his head, clearly not used to a pair like them "and let me guess you won't be telling us hers either". Sydney crossed her arms "what would be the fun in that"?
The interviewer sighed over dramatically "I guess that means I have to get serious for a moment then". Ava's eyes widened, glancing at Sydney and wondering where this could possibly lead. "Don't you know Shaun, people find people who are serious to be very boring" Sydney said, tilting her head and waiting for a response.
"Well, it is part of my job requirement sadly" he shrugged like he couldn't help it. "Which means I have to ask you this, why did you to girlies come here in the first place. "To sing" said Ava, before she could think about the camera sitting in front of her. "Yes, because we haven't heard that one before" Shaun said looking directly into the camera and rolling his eyes with sarcasm.
The girls smiled and Sydney clasped her hand onto her friend's shoulder "well I think Aves here covered it, but in all seriousness when we were little it was a promise we made to each other". They met eyes before Ava looked back over to the interviewer, finally finding her voice for a second "Only thing is it was a three person promise".
Sydney looked away; away from the camera's and the interviewer, away from the line of people watching because they were waiting their own turn. "And let me guess your third musketeer backed out right?" Shaun said slowly, unsure of himself at their somber expressions.
"Yeah, I guess you could say that. When I was eight and Sid here was nine, he had an allergic reaction and went to the hospital and everything. It was really bad and the next day he" she paused, wiping her eyes and wishing they hadn't asked this question. It was easier pretending that it never happened "he- um, he died" Ava said, her voice getting quieter with each word.
"Oh, I-" Shaun said before Sydney cut off "don't say you're sorry". Ava smiled sadly at the lost look on Shaun's face "we've heard it a bit too much for either of our likings. Besides we're here and we're now so" Ava shrugged, letting the sentence hang for a second. "So yeah, we aren't the three musketeers, in fact Sydney almost became a lone musketeer. But nooo" Ava said, bringing her lips up into a forced smile.
"Hey! Just because you can't sing doesn't mean you can break a pinky promise" said Sydney, focusing back on the conversation. "See what I go through daily?" Ava asked Shaun, laughing some. "Oh, and one more thing, we are the dynamic duo not musketeers" Sydney said into the camera with the most serious voice she could manage.
"We are not a group Sid" Ava said, rolling her eyes before they both looked at Shaun expectantly. He blinked, pulling the mic back towards himself "well, we got an entertaining pair here to say the least" Shaun said while Sydney wrapper her arm around Ava "that we defiantly are".
