I drop to the floor and start to cry.
My father promised it would work forever. That I would never have to worry about someone finding out. But what do I do now. I can't hide it anymore.
I pick up the phone on the desk. I dial the number for Bratten. After 2 rings the Secretary answers.
"Hello?" She asks
"Hi, it's Eva I need to talk to Hanna Pexil."
"Oh yes your Majesty, just let me get her."
She punches the extension to my old room. After a few long seconds I hear Hanna's voice on the other end.
"Eva?" What's wrong?"
"My hair! You can see the blonde!" I whisper and start crying harder
"What are you going to do?"
"I don't know! I am so scared."
"Me too, I have something to tell you." Hanna says I can hear the worry "I'm pregnant."
My mouth hangs open.
"When did this happen." I ask
"That night in the factory, when I said I was visiting an old friend."
"Oh my god Hanna we have to run away."
"No Mitch will understand just let me talk to him, please."
"No, you can't tell him."
"Eva give him the phone! Now!" She yells
I walk out of my room and try to remember the way to his room. I walk down the hall and knock on the door. I hope he is still awake. After a few seconds he opens the door.
"Eva?" He asks hugging me
"Here it's Hanna." I say
He takes the phone and walks to a chair in this room. I walk in and sit on his bed. I don't trust Mitch, but I trust Hanna. I'm so tired. I lay down and shut my eyes, trying to quiet the voices in my head. I don't know how but I fall asleep.
"Eva?" I am shaken awake by Mitch
"Sorry." I say
"Your fine I need to talk to you."
I sit up as he sits down next to me.
"First Hanna is my cousin, we grew up together, till the thing with her parents."
Why couldn't she tell me, why did she have to keep that from me. I don't ask I just nod my head.
"Hanna told me you were blonde even before I met you, the night that you girls went to the Factory. I hate the way the world is, I want to change it. Having you be blonde is perfect. Having a queen be blonde but having the king still love her. Is perfect."
He knew, he accepts it. He is a good person.
"That isn't why I picked you Eva. I picked you because you made me fall in love with you. You didn't care about the rules, you needed to know how the other half lived, you wanted more out of life. And I love you."
He leans over and kisses me. I don't stop him. I trust him, he has good intentions.
"Now Hanna, she will be living here, she will be killed if anyone finds out about the baby right now. I will be bringing her here later today, and possibly the baby's father."
I start to cry again but this time I am happy. This time I am the one who kisses him.
"Go back to sleep, when you wake up Hanna will be here." He says and kisses me on the cheek.
He turns off the lights and I close my eyes falling asleep smiling.
