"Eva!" I hear my name being yelled
I slowly sit up from Mitch's bed. Who is yelling at me it is too early and I have a headache.
Hanna! She's coming today. I jump out of bed and run downstairs. I hug her. It's only been a few days but I missed her so much.
"I missed you" She says
"Me too. So you're pregnant?"
"Yes." She says looking at her feet. "I met the father when I was 5. We went to school together. We were in love. I loved him from the moment I saw him. We dated, even though at 5 I don't think we knew what that meant."
It's strange to imagine 5 year old Hanna having a boyfriend. It's even stranger to imagine Hanna being pregnant.
"How did you find out you were pregnant." I ask her if she went to the nurse at school she would have been caught
"Well at first I though I had the stomach flu." She says "But on my way to the nurse I remembered, about that night, and the time matched up. So I left school and went to the nearest store, bought one and found out I was pregnant.'
How can she seem so calm? I would be freaking out. I mean I am freaking out about kissing a guy I am supposed to be in love with.
"Eva are you hungry?" Mitch asks me
"Wow Mitch thanks for asking your favorite cousin." Hanna says "And the pregnant one."
Mitch gets down on his knees and grabs Hanna's hand "My most favorite pregnant cousin, would you like something to eat?"
"Why I thought you would never ask." She says laughing "Would you mind bringing something up to Eva's room. We have alot to dicuss."
"Girls are weird, you have only been away from eachother for 3 days." Mitch says shaking his head
"Oh whatever mitchypoo." She says kissing his cheek "Come on Eva."
We walk to my room. She knows this place way better than I do.
"This used to be my room when I would spend summers here."
I sit down on the bed and comb through my hair with my fingers.
"Do you like him?" Hanna asks
I shrug my shoulders. I don't know what to tell her.
"I mean I have to like him don't I?"
"Not necessarly, but I can tell you like him." She says "The way you look at him, it reminds me of the way I look at Elliot."
I smile "I mean I did kiss him."
"You did what?" She practically yells "When, did you really kiss him first? Oh my god Eva I can not believe this."
"Okay Hanna you are acting like a 12 year old." I say laughing "He kissed me, then I kissed him. I have to get used to it."
"Sorry for freaking out, I just thougt you liking him would take much longer."
After a minute of silence Mitch brings in a tray of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
"Oh, Mitch thanks for remembering." Hanna says taking a big bite
"How could I forget you at these at every meal for a whole summer." He says back
"Whatever." She says playfully pushing him
He laughs "Okay, so I am canceling the ball that is on Friday, I think we need some time, especially with your hair."
I touch the top of my head. I don't believe that my hair is turning back to blonde. In a way I am happy, I have always wondered what I would look like with my natural color.
"What are we going to do?" I ask him
"Well, I'm sure you remember Andy."
Andy was my dad's assistant since I was born.
"Wasn't killed after my dad died?" I ask
"Actually no, he was planned but the day before the set him free, he has been working in a small house in the corner of the city." Mitch says "He was part of the group that made your hair dye, and as we speak he is making more."
"Oh." I say speechless
"He is also making a blonde dye for the big reveal, which will be the wedding day."
"So I will walk down the aisle with blonde hair?" I ask
Will people still like me? Will I be killed? Will Mitch be killed? Everything just seems to risky, but I could save those poor blondes that are forced to work. I could do for Grace and Ms. Aceti.
"Ok, what about Hanna."
"Well I am going to say that she is my cousin and I just wanted more family around." Mitch says "Hanna I promise I will try my hardest to bring Elliot here, but it may not be for awhile."
"I understand." She says
"Do you girls want anything else?"
"I think were good, I just need to process everything." I tell him
He kisses me and goes back to his room.
