Lying in the soft bed Brian stirred from his dreamless slumber that’s making him restless. Trying to sit up he felt his whole body sore, yet despite his sore body he still tried to move his upper body to sit.
“Stop moving around will you?” a voice startled him making him snap his head where the sound came from and groaning at the pain.
“Jillian… where – “ he was cut short when he noticed a discoloration in her throat in a form of a hand.
“You’re in the hospital right now.” She said her voice a little hoarse. When she saw that he was looking at her she abruptly covered her throat while averting her eyes from him.
“What happened to you?” he asked, eyeing her suspiciously.
“It’s none of your business.” She said barely in a whisper.
“Not my business?” he repeated her statement with an exasperated tone in his voice. “Jillian who did that to you?”
“Did what?” feigning that she didn’t know what he meant.
“Don’t joke with me Jillian.” He said now mad. “What the hell is that choke mark in your throat and why I am in the hospital?!” he asked demanding answer.
“I told you it’s none of your business.” She said now turned to him. “And the answer of your second question, you collapse outside the building when you were about to leave.”
Gritting his teeth which made a sound only he can hear he looked away and stared instead at the window. Watching the silk curtain flow against the soft tender breeze. He didn’t know why but somehow he felt responsible to what might have happen to Jillian. Clenching and unclenching his fist he gathered his strength to ask a dreaded question. Silently praying that his deduction is wrong,
“Did I do that to you?” he mumbled.
“What?”
“I said.” He turns to her looking straight in her eyes, daring her to lie to him. “Did I do that to you?” he asked again pointing the mark in her throat.
“What make you think it were you?”
“Don’t make a roundabout in this conversation Jillian. Answer me truthfully.”
“I believe that I don’t have the obligation to tell you anything about my affairs.” She said sternly.
“I see…” he looked down. Jillian was astounded when she hinted a distress in his voice. “You always say those stuff when it concerns about me. I know that you are only feigning your innocence because I know when you are lying to me.” He paused. “Since I trusted your skill on making decision I believe that you can help me.” He looks at her.
“W-what do you mean?”
“Call it a case of being paranoid. I guess. Anyway I want you to know that this dizziness and nausea I’ve been feeling has been going on for a month now.”
“Wait!” she suddenly stands up. “You said three days ago!”
“Yes. Three days ago when my mind started to drift off and the pain I’ve been feeling maximized. I thought that maybe it was just stress but yesterday I have this feeling that this is not an ordinary stress or fatigue side effect. I think it was more.”
