The days that had passed seemed like months. Jessabelle didn’t know what to do. She worried that he would have found someone else, someone he wouldn’t have to wait for. But he understood she wasn’t ready for another relationship…

Her phone rang, causing her to bolt up. The strong vibrations startled her. She searched for her phone, which she found stuck in between the cochins of the couch. She looked at the caller ID, a small spark of disappointment traveled its way through her.

“Yes, Miss. Kay?” she groans as she answers. “You could try to at least act happy, Jessa.” Her boss laughed through the phone. “I’m sorry.” She mutters. “I heard Panic went to Cali to work on their new album. You know what the name is yet?” she asks. Jessabelle shakes her head. “No. I haven’t heard from Brendon since he landed.”

“Aww, poor you. Anyway, I called to tell you that between you and that other little intern that works here are going to get chosen to get a full job down at the magazine company in NY. It pays a more than this place, and they give you a place to stay until you get on your own feet. It’s like a raise or something.”

Jessabelle’s eyes widen. Her dream was to be a journalist. That was the point of her getting an internship at the company she’s at now. This was the kind of break she needed. To be an editor was what she really wanted and she was finally getting the chance to do something she loved.

“It’s an editing job, isn’t it?” she asks. “Yes ma’am.” Miss. Kay replies. “They want an answer by the end of this month. You’ll start next month. They’ll send you a plane ticket and everything. They really want you with their team.”

“How do they know about me?” she asks.

“Well, a little birdie sent them some articles you’d written when they sent the job information papers.”

“Miss. Kay, you’re amazing! I love you so much!” Jessabelle screams through the phone. “Whatever, kid. I’ll talk to you later. I’ve got a lotta work and you’ve gotta a lotta thinking to do.”

“Alright. Thank you again! Wait! Before you go, who do I answer to?”

“I’ll email you the phone number you call to accept or decline the offer. I hope you’ll accept. They have a lot to offer you, hun. Talk to you later, now, kay?”

“Alright, Miss. Kay. Good bye.” She nearly squeals. As soon as she hung up the phone a shrilling scream emerged from the excited girl.  She danced around the living room, jumping on the couch and running around in circles. She couldn’t believe she’d got offered a job in New York.

That’s when it hit her: what about Las Vegas? What about Jessie and Brendon? Her mom? All the things she would have to give up. What was going to happen?

Her moment of excitement quickly faded. She sat down on the couch and thought. She tried to make the puzzles pieces fit. She knew she couldn’t make this choice on her own… with Brendon gone and Jecilia not home, she thought about going to see the one person she was able to see whenever she needed help: her mom.
