“Where is she?” Brendon asks through the phone. “She’s here at home. She hasn’t come out of her room since she’d gotten back from work. She’s talking on the phone now.” Jecilia whispers. “I’ll be there shortly, Jessie.” Brendon informs. Him, Ryan, and Spencer were all pact into his Lambo, speeding and dodging traffic.
“Brendon, you’d better ease up on the acceleration, I’m not paying if you get another ticket.” Spencer says. “I don’t care. I have to clear things up with Belle.” Brendon says ignoring the fact her was going 20 over the speed limit.
After about 30 minutes, they arrive at Jessabelle’s place. Brendon scurries out of the car and up to Jessabelle’s apartment. Brendon bangs on the door twice before Jecilia opens it. “Her room.” she points to the closed door. Jecilia notices Ryan and throws her arms around his neck. “How’ve you been?” he asks.
“No so good with Jessabelle like this. That article tore her apart.” she says. “But now that you’re here to make it all better, some light broke the darkness.” Jecilia giggles before kissing Ryan.
“Jessabelle! Open up. Let me explain!” Brendon shouts as he knocks on her door. She swings the door open and looks deeply in his eyes. He read sorrow and heartbreak. Her face was red and her eyes were swelling with tears.
She knew tha if she looked into those deep brown pools, her spirit would be blown away and pain would take its place. But she tried to find at least an ounce of truth that could have been hidden somewhere deep inside; truth that she couldn’t find.
She turns away and walks past him and into the kitchen. The guys chase after her. “Jessabelle, I was there, let me tell you what happened.” Ryan offered. “Why? So you can cover for him. I’m good.” she says. She opens the fridge and pulls out an iced coffee. “Belle, please! Let me tell you what happened that night!” Brendon cries. “If you didn’t want to wait for me that’s all you had to say…you didn’t have to do it behind my back, Brendon. Goodbye.” she says, before going back into her room and locking the door behind her. She slides down and her mourning sobs begin again.
She glances around the room at all the boxes. She walks over to one box and peeps inside. A small case of photos sit in a transparent container. She flips through the photos and finds the one she was looking for. She takes a marker and writes on the back. At the end of her message she draws one of the tiny dinosaurs she knew Jecilia always loved.
Goodbye, Brendon…
