You two first met when he had awoken after his 70-year slumber. You were a newish agent at S.H.I.E.L.D and partook to look at his case and help him adjust to the modern world. You had pulled up in one of S.H.I.E.L.D.S's heavily armoured mobiles to see Cap staring bewildered at the bright lights and big buildings before him. Fury had jumped out of the car to look captain in the eye. You eagerly hopped out to see the bulky soldier turn his attention to you. His soft blue eyes told you that he was scared and confused. You tried not to show him any pity and stay professional, but you couldn't help but feel bad for him.
"Look I'm sorry about that little show back there, but... We thought it best break it to you slowly." Fury said as Cap readjusted his vision to look back at Nick.
"Break what?"
"You've been asleep, Cap, for almost 70 years." Steve started to turn his sight to all the screens projecting life and light. It was so much for him to take in.
"This is Agent Y/L/N, she's going to be looking after you and taking good care of you." Nick said placing a hand on your shoulder. Steve also looked back at you; still confused but a little less after knowing that someone was there to help. You offered a reassuring smile that caused his beautiful, blue eyes to clear of sorrow. He forced a smile back, but it faded not long after. They had him sit next to you in our car. You offered him your hand to relieve his stress which he hesitated to take. After thinking over his decision, he interlocked his fingers with yours. His hand was warm and sweaty, but you didn't mind. The thought never really processed in your head that you were holding the hand of Steve Rogers, the patriotic man that allegedly froze to death. He looked a little uncomfortable so you squeezed his hand and turned to face him. He quickly turned his attention away from the window to look you in the eyes. You noticed that he had little specks of green floating in his eyes. You almost lost your words but quickly gathered your thoughts together and proceeded,
"I promise you that you're going to adjust to everything just fine."
"I'm not so sure about that ma'am," He sighed softly. You put a hand on his shoulder and he retained his focus on you.
"Look, I understand that all this can be overwhelming, but the reality will set in eventually. Plus, this whole experience will be rather fun and interesting. You'll be able to see how much the world has changed and improved. Don't be so distraught." You comforted him. His small frown changed to a soft smile as you talked.
