Audrey's POV
"Yeah, I miss my mom. A lot actually. I never really got to say goodbye to her because she disappeared without saying anything."
Chris and I were sitting on the covered porch overlooking the ocean. The thunder rolled behind us while the rain poured down on the black skies. I had asked him about his mom, and step dad and to find out that his step dad was a cool guy, but when his mother died, he bailed.
"Taylor actually reminds me of my mom a lot, she--"
"Audrey, Mason wants to talk to you" my mom opens the door to interrupt Chris
"Can he wait? I'm in a conversation"
"Uhh no, please go talk to him"
"I can talk to him when I'm done talking to Chris" I snap
"Audrey, I am running unbelievably low on patience right now. So I'm going to tell you nicely one more time. Go talk to your brother." She starts to rub her temples and I get the hint.
I knock on Masons door, "go away!"
"Hey, mas it's me, can you unlock the door for me?" A couple quiet seconds pass and the door slowly opens
"Don't let mom in"
"I won't. I promise" I shut the door behind me, locking it again. Mason goes back over to his bed and curls up in a ball, starting to cry "hey, woah buddy. Don't cry"
"I hate mom" he admits and I become worried. Mason never had the balls to say that to mom even if she chopped a finger off, he would still love her. Because that's the kind if person Mason is.
I lay on the bed with him and turn on my side to face him, "and whys that?"
"She told Ed something that I specifically said not to tell. But she went off and told him anyway" he rubs his runny nose on his shirt, "that's why I hate her"
"Mason, I've been in your spot before, trust me, mom has had some fair shares of I hate you's from me and I thought I meant it completely. But what I've come to learn is that mom never does anything to hurt you or to make you mad at her. She does it because it's in our best interest"
"But I told her not to"
"Then that means either she was really confused or she needed guidance from Ed because if it meant so much to you that you would hate her because of it, then she wouldn't have said it unless it was necessary"
I move closer to him, bringing him up into my arms. He laid his head on my chest and held my stomach, "do you want to talk about what this is all about?"
He shook his head no and I sit in silence with him.
I know my brother is gay, I just never wanted to say anything to him; knowing how sensitive he is. My best guess was when we came back from that Isabelle's house and he had his first kiss, but he didn't have a boner getting into my car. Also my best friend is gay, I know all the gay ticks wether it's a girl or guy gay, I know them.
"I'm not going to put words in your mouth and stop me at any point I'm wrong or not going the right direction. But if you have questions or your confused on how to, uhm" I paused, thinking of a proper way to say it, "how to come out to anyone else, you can call Bethany. I'm sure she would love to talk to you and help you with any questions you have"
He just sits in my grip, playing with the bottom of my t-shirt, "see, her parents are super religious, and she was scared shitless to tell them. But turns out, that they loved her even more after she came out. And that they welcomed her with open arms because she was now herself"
