Audrey's POV
New Year's Eve came up quick and I have been at the gym every day trying to get back in shape for volleyball the day after New Year's. I was thankful that the gym was open today because my anxiety is through the roof. Thinking and even doubting myself I won't be on the team, even though my mom says I will. But who listens to her?
"I thought I would find you here!" Blake comes up behind me and grabs the volleyball, "I stopped by your house and your mom invited me over for the family party tonight. I think she likes me"
"Because I've talked so highly of you" I turn and smile at him. Blake and I have been 'talking' since just before Thanksgiving. But since my mom doesn't let me have people over until after the New Year. But I guess she likes Blake enough to invite him over. "Now, give me my volleyball."
I attempt to take it from him and he pulls it away, "let me see what you've got" He spins the ball in his fingers and walk around the net, "are you going to make the A team?"
"stuck in her daydream,"
"No, we are not about to quote your uncle" he chuckles
"He's not my uncle anymore, my mom's screwing him" I get closer to the net, standing ready for the ball, "now throw me the ball"
"Bossy"
"You're interrupting my small window of practice time, throw me the ball or leave" I stay stern, letting some of my sarcasm come out so I don't look super mean.
"okay, okay" he toss the ball up and I dive for it
"What are you doing? The ball has to get to me"
"You can't always wish for the ball to come to you Aud, learn how to dive" he smiles and grabs the ball again. Tossing it over the net and I bump it back over to him. We play back and forth for a while before I choose to go running. "How far do you normally run?"
"couple miles,"
"Hey Aud! We're going to be closing soon, I'll give you about ten minutes or so and then we're going to close up"
Okay, maybe I lied. The gym wasn't really open today but I have come to know the owner, Steve, really well and I gave him a call, asking if he could just open for a couple hours so I can get a work out in. "okay! Thanks Steve!" He nods and heads back into his office.
I run about 3 miles before Steve starts messing with me and turns off half the lights. Blake was sitting on the bench when I came out of the locker room with my bag, "Thanks Steve! Have a great New Year's!"
"Thanks Audrey! You too and good luck with tryouts on the second!" I thank the older man and walk out with Blake
"I have my car, but if you want you can follow me home"
"I have to go to the store and get some stuff before I head over, but I'll be there around five?" he confirms with me and I nod
"My sister will just be coming over so that works out perfect!" I give him a hug before I get into my car and head home.
My mom is running around the house with the vacuum and Mason is walking behind her with a sandwich, leaving a trail of crumbs. I laugh and shake my head when my mom turns around and scolds Mason.
Chris and Ed are sitting on the couch, both enjoying a beer, even though Chris is illegal but then again Ed or my mom doesn't have control over him. So really, he can do whatever the fuck he wants. I drop my gym bag at the door along with my volleyball.
"No, no, no bring that up to your room, I just cleaned this floor" My mom comes over and hands me my bag, "take a shower too, you smell"
"hmm, that would make sense now wouldn't it?"
