Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! I absolutely despise alarm clocks. My fist slams against the snooze button as I slowly awaken. The sun is barely peaking over the horizon making the beautiful suburban New York City scenery greeting me for the morning. I smiled to myself as my breath clouded the window. I slipped my robe over my black shorts and pink tank top. I see Nat the sleep-walker strikes again! My pillows are draped over my dresser, my mattress is on the floor with the sheets striped. This was not a good start to moving into a new condo. Boxes and bubble wrap are thrown all around the room, I stayed up until 12:30 A.M. to pack all of my clothes in my dresser and closet. Everything looks as if it never left my old room. I smiled at my success and turning the doorknob of my room. It was only 6:00 A.M. so everyone would start waking up now. Tiptoeing from my room to the bathroom for a shower.
It took fifteen minutes to wash my hair and body. There was a knock at the door? Nah. Everyone in the house knows not to go to the bathroom while someone else is inside. This time I'm sure there was a knock at the door. "Nate?" I ask as the door opens and shuts.
"Yeah. It's me. I was just wondering how you were doing. I know it was hard for you leaving Jamie and Ben so suddenly. It sucks that dad told us just one day notice to say goodbye to our friends." He stated the obvious. Yes, I did have a hard time with the leaving my best friend and boyfriend. Jamie was my best friend since the first grade when we met. I told her everything, which made her like a sister to me. Ben is the sweetest, most attractive, athletic, loyal, boyfriend you could ask for. He was one of the star football players at West Marshfield High. Every girl wanted a taste of him, but at the end of my sophomore year he asked me out on a date and we've been dating ever since. I'm afraid that the distance will break us apart. My tears I've been holding back slowly rolled down my cheeks.
"Yeah, it's still a little fresh. I'm sure I'll make some new friends today, so maybe they can take my mind off of back home."
"Nat, you know it's going to be different here. This is New York City, not little Marshfield, Wisconsin. Dad told me to watch out for you until you make a few friends."
"You don't need to do that and besides does dad not have faith that I will make friends?" I laugh.
"Nah, he is just worried about you. I'm worried about you, even."
"Nate, why would you need to worry about me? Back home I had friends, a boyfriend, I was a part of the cheerleading squad, I was one of the most high scoring students in all of my classes, why would I need help here?"
"Natalie, remember when we went on vacation to Florida and I had to fight, like, five guys because they were touching your ass. I didn't even try to beat up all of the guys who stared at you, because there was too many and I would've gone to jail. I hate to break it to you, but you happen to be an attractive girl, somehow. Plus, dad said I'm your older brother and that's what brothers do for there sisters, watch out for them"
"Thank, Nate." I say sarcastically. "And you're not that much older than me. We are three minutes apart." Nate and I are twins, it's not like he's years older. "Nate, may you please get out so I can finish?" I asked.
"Yeah. Sure, but we are walking to school together. You've got an hour." He said as he walked out the door. I grabbed a towel from the wrack and wrapped it around me. I dried myself off and started to do my hair, making a side fishtail braid. I put on a little mascara and lip gloss as I walked to my room and closed the door. Walking to my closet I pulled out my clothes for today, and I'm thankful that we got here on a Thursday night and I only had one day of school this week. I pulled out a floral skirt, a white blouse, and jean jacket, that I would pair with navy blue flats. I let my robe fall to the ground and pulled the clothes on. Quickly glancing at my clock 6:50 A.M.
