I stood silently, "About our conversation this morning.." He started. I turned around and sat on the bed next to him. He combed a hand through his chestnut hair, his blue eyes serious with emotions. "I-I, well I can't let you go that easily." He took my hands in his soft tan ones. My heart softened as I remembered our past, our memories.
"Benny, we can't be together. We live too far away from each other, I need you to move on." I smile, why can't he just face the facts. I care for him a lot, he was my first ever boyfriend. His sun freckles shown in the bright light of Jazz's bedroom. He's really attractive, he cares about his girlfriend with undying love and respect. Which is why I can't do this to him, I can't keep him waiting for me to come back to Wisconsin. Ben's blue eyes searched mine for answers, "Ben, I care about you too much to hold you back from a good life back home or where ever you decide to go. I love you, just do this for me. Please, don't make this harder than it already is." I choke through my tears, his own eyes clouded over with tears. Ben is a sensitive guy, you could tell him anything and he would understand.
"I just..can't let you go Nat." He sighed, pulling me into a tight hug. I held him in the same way, I could feel his fast beating heart against my warm skin. His arms loosened, but never let me go, "I love you." He whispered into my hair. "I'll never let you go..never. But I know this is for the best." He kissed my forehead, his warm pink lips pulled away and this time, I didn't want him to. My tears streamed down my face as he embraced me one last time. "I'll always be here for you, always." He whispered next to my ear. I nodded in agreement, his warm face pressed against the crown of my head.
"I'm going to miss you, Ben." I sighed, breathe, Natalie breathe. My tears shortened as I regained control of my emotions. I love Ben, but not how he loves me. He's my one of my best friends and that's all I see him as. He pulled away, wiping my last tears off of my cheeks.
"Don't cry, I'm the one getting rejected right now." He teased, making me smile guiltily. "Just do me a favor?" He held my hands tightly, staring into my heartless eyes. "Don't go out with that Ashton guy." He pursed his lips into a thin line, unhappy.
"Ben he's ga-" He stuck a finger to my lips, "Natalie, I've known you too long to know when you're lying. Just please, figure out what you want first, he seems like a player and I don't want to see you get hurt." I look down at my toes, I can't promise that. Ben is looking out for me, but I already knew Ashton is a player. I nod my head to the second part of his favor, I won't be getting hurt. If anything, Ashton will be the heartbroken one. He shook his head laughing, "You won't do my favor will you?"
"I won't get my heart broken, I promise." He rolled his eyes playfully. "I'm serious!" I yell, pushing his chest. This is like old times, when we were just friends. We sat back down on the bed and laughed at each other.
"Why do you have to make this so hard?" He whined. I rolled my eyes softly, our fingers still entwined from before. I stare at our hands for a moment, they're so warm. He follows my gaze, "I'm going to miss this." He states. I make a wall between us with my dark hair, "You know I don't like when you do that." He chuckled flipping my wall of hair to the side. Laughing, I stood up and walked the the pink door with blue splatters on painted on.
"We should go down stairs." I open up the door, damn, I forgot I need a shirt. "Go ahead, I need to find a shirt." I start digging through the shirt drawer again. My fingers slid roughly over the different fabrics of the shirts.
"I'll meet you downstairs." He smiled walking out of the door. I shook my head smiling, I'm glad we talked through our problems. I grabbed a white wife beater tank top, walking down the stairs while slipping the white fabric over my head. My eyes locked with Ashton's as I sat on the couch next to Jazz. Her red hair is gobbed with peanut butter and gum. "Jazz! What happened?!" I gasped touching the peanut butter.
