"So. How'd it go?" Kam asked over the phone.
"They seemed to like me." I shrugged, rummaging through the drawers of my dresser. "They're okay, I mean, not what I expected."
"What'd you expect?" He asked.
"Dunno, I guess I thought they'd be seriously uptight, but they're not. They joke, drink wine till they're a little tipsy, and embarrass Natalie; just like any other regular parents do."
"Ah. You like 'em?" He asked.
"I guess." I shrugged again.
"How'd Nat like Carla and John?" Kam asked.
"She really liked them I think. My ma pulled out a picture of me-"
"The naked, baby one?" Kam laughed.
"Yes." I grumbled, remembering Natalie blush and laugh at the picture. 'You had such a cute butt!' rang through my head, making me smile again.
"So when did you guys leave?"
"I stayed a while after my parents left. Natalie ended up falling asleep." I said.
"Oh, well I got to go. I'm meeting Jazz at Ripely's." He said before saying his goodbye and hanging up. I sighed and got up, grabbing my iPod before I walked down the stairs to our home-gym. My fingers breezed over the bottons of the control panel. The belt of the tredmile began at a rapid pace, but I quickly caught up. After three miles of running, I went over to the weights and started doing several reps. A pair of small hands started trailing up my legs, making me smile. My Natalie has come to surprise me! I placed the bar onto the stand and sat up. "Vanessa?!"
Natalie's P.O.V.
"He's a very nice boy Natalie." My mother commented, smiling as she handed me a large slice of pizza. The savory aroma wafted my nostrils, making my mouth water. I stuck the end in my mouth and bit down, god how I love pizza!
"Mhm!" I mumbled back to her, still chewing.
"He's a keeper." My father said through his newspaper.
"Yup." I agreed, taking another bite of my pizza. Seriously, who doesn't like pizza?! Nate came into the kitchen with a sly grin on his face. He sat in the chair next to me, taking my hands in his.
"Sis, I'm taking you out." He said. My eyebrows shot up in surprise, but I continued eating my pizza.
"After my pizza." I stated.
"Whatever." Nate shrugged, walking out of the room while texting on his phone. Peculiar act on Nathaniel's part, I thought. I shugged and continued to eat my pizza. After another two slices, I walked to Nates room. "You ready?" He asked. I nodded as he picked up his car keys and pushed me out of the door. We made small talk about school and the topic of Charlie came up quite a bit.
"Nate has a crush on my friend." I teased in a sing-song voice. He rolled his eyes, but didn't deny it. "So where are w going anyways?" I asked impatiently.
"It's a surprise." He mused.
"Out of all people, Nate, you should know, very well, that I absolutely dispise surprises." I spat, crossing my arms over my chest.
"Especially after today." he mumbled under his breath.
"What?" I asked.
"Nothing. I didn't say anything." He said, flicking on the radio. I turned my body towards him, slapping the volume down to zero.
"You liar!" I stuck my finger out in his face. He whacked it away gently before rolling his eyes. I took a deep breath and sat back down in my initial form. We drove for a few more miles, still we didn't talk. It seems as if, when we moved here, we've been absolutely distant. He barely talks to me anymore and I suppose I do the same. I hate it, but I don't see him giving an effort. Though, I should be the mature one and step up; and say "Hey Nate, why don't we go out for lunch and catch up?" But I'm a coward at these things. I don't like talking about my feelings or stuff like that, I was never comfortable doing it. We reached cal-du-sac which had very posh looking houses standing at the edges of the sidewalk. The lawns were all unique but perfect in every way. It seemed as if god himself had done the gardening. Nate hopped out of the car and I followed, we walked up to a thick, wood door. Nate knocked gently, which was odd for him, and waiting a few moments. No one came so he twisted the door handle and stepped inside. "What are you doing?!" I hissed.
