Havoc in Hades

Havoc had struck in the underworld one cool dark afternoon. The vast plains of lively grass blew while the gloomy, thick water inside Acheron rippled at the bellowing of Hades enormous growl. The sound made a sigh fall from my lips in annoyance where I had been sitting in my palace, far, far away from Hades.

I had felt it slip, the soul of his Esmeralda, though I knew better than to interfere and meddle in the life of the God of little reasoning and hotheadedness. It had happened earlier that day, when the petite girl had kick the bucket, her soul was still fresh and ready for the taking but I decided to keep my distance until he had called for me personally.

"THANATOS!"

There it is...

The sound was displeasing, his aggravated growl in disapproval always meant the worse and when it was my name being hissed out from his devilish mouth I was immediately responsible. Only this time, the trouble in his kingdom was not my fault, I was merely notified when it happened. I suspected no foul play. Her death did not feel to be forced or uneasy. She must have simply had enough. This did not surprise me in the slightest, Esmeralda's soul had been troubled for many a years and the look of stress was prevalent in her gloomy hazel eyes. I nearly felt sorry for the girl. She must have simply had enough.

"NOW!"

Another crack of his loud roar sounded through the underworld and with that I was up, my eyes lowered in annoyance and heavy with sleep. I immediately collected my things and with a mighty strike from my scythe I cut the air which rippled in response, before a crack split the plain in two and I was staring into vast nothingness. I pulled the heavy black hood of my cloak over my head and stepped into the emptiness of my portal.

"Your majesty," I greeted, my head bowed at his presence. Now, though it took everything in me not to be sarcastic, was not the time be informal with the livid God. There he sat, in his throne in the center of the mostly empty, dark room. Persephone stood meekly behind his black throne, in her hands was a large, square-cut emerald, which had belonged to Esmeralda herself. The stone, which had once shined and swirled with her powerful magic, bow looked dull and faded.

How odd.

"Save it you unworthy little bug. When did this happen?" He spat at me, his voice leaking venom as he expressed each syllable crystal clear.

I bit my tongue as my hallow blazing eyes met his cold and icy ones.

Not now Thanatos... it's your ass on the line, not his.

"This was not my doing. I felt it. She just died, It didn't feel restless." I explained slowly as I peered out at him from behind my hood with disdain, luckily for me my hood shadowed my face greatly or it would be 'off with my head'. His pale structured face twisted in abhorrence as he stared daggers at me. I stood my ground with ease. This was not the first time Hades had chastised me due to my malevolence and I knew not matter how bloodthirsty Hades got I was far from great punishment.

"MY Esmeralda-- MY mage is dead! It is your duty to handle the dead! And when it comes to MY Kingdom there will be NO miscommunications Thanatos so please, tell me why you seemed to not even attempt to inform me of her passing?" He hissed out like a python and clenched his fists.

"She must have done it herself Hades, sir. I did not inform you because I didn't want to meddle. I thought you knew really--"

"You thought I knew? Thanatos! Her energy is gone! She could not have done this! If she did her aura would still be present!"

His words immediately struck me and I froze. My eyes drifted back to the dull emerald and immediately I felt my anger skyrocket.

"Her magic is gone?"

________

The moon above head soothed my racing mind as I sat idoly on the hood of my car. I laid back, my head now resting against the windshield as I stared off the cliff and at the dark woods and twinkling stars. I was at peace.

"You know, you can't exactly sit up there forever, Lulana." The voice of my auburn haired bestie rung in my ears, awakening me from the trance I had gotten myself stuck in.

Maybe I can...

"I know, I'd just prefer to."

She smiled at me, leaning against the side of the older black Mustang I had been sitting on and looked up at the bright stars. We had just graduated high school and soon it would be time for college. Our summer had only just begun.

"Oh come on," Verona whined finally, grabbing my wrist and tugging at it, "We still have so much to do! So little time-- Lulana! We have one more summer!"

I laughed and shook my head, brushing the dark chocolate hair out of my face and behind my edged ear, rolling my eyes.

"You've got to be kidding, we have three whole months to be as incredibly reckless as you want." I replied with a grin as i looked back up at the stars, they always glowed brighter when I was at peace. She huffed and shook her head.

"You know, you're the only person I know who can sit outside and stare at the freaking stars all night. I mean, come on! The night is young! The parties are hot and the devil's got your back tonight! The only person you have to answer to is yourself and speaking of parties, I happen to have a fresh invitation to an incredibly hot party at this very moment... what do you say, Ms 'Head in the Clouds and Ass on the Ground'." She snickered at me, raising a sculpted, daring brow in my direction. I knew it wasn't a question, it was more of a dare and I was no one who backed down from a dare, especially when it was something so incredibly simple was a party.

Besides, when has a little party hurt anybody?

"Alright. Tell me where."
