Two weeks after our little run-in with Cal I was driving home jamming out to One Direction.
“Give you this, give you that. Blow a kiss take it back, if I looked inside your brain. I would find lots of things, clothes, shoes, diamond rings, stuff that’s driving me insane….” When my phone rang, it read Mom.
“Mom! You just interrupted Harry Styles beautiful voice!”
“Sorry? Honey, you need to come home now. Your grandmother is here, so you need to go through the back door and up to your room and change quickly. She wants to take us out to dinner. She met some new lady that has a grandson that just moved here. Or something like that just, hurry up.
“Ummm...ok? Who’s the guest? I’m sure that I would know the name. And why is she here now? I had a great day and-“
“Just hurry. I got to go.” With that I heard the end call signal. Well it was nice talking to you to mom, I thought. I pulled into our back driveway, and ran through the door. I walked quietly up the back stairs and slipped into my bedroom. I quickly changed into the clothes that my mom had already laid out on my bed. After I changed, I walked downstairs bracing myself for my grandmother.
“Macy! It’s so great to see you sweetheart!” She came bounding down the hallway.
“You too, Grandmother, what’s the occasion?
“Well, one of my new friend’s grandson is new here, and I just know you’ll take a liking to him.”
“What’s his name?”
“Tsk, tsk Macy, all in good time.” She said like it was a crime to tell me his friggin’ name. I don’t like this, at all.
“I’m seeing someone else now Grandmother. Two weeks now. Why didn’t you ask Michael to go?” I asked referring to my cousin.
“He was busy. Now come on we don’t want to be late.” We were all ushered out the door and shoveled into the limo by my grandmother. My grandmother enjoys paying the over-priced prices of limos just so we can look like we’re a big to-do. An hour later we were once again pushed out the door and into the restaurant. As soon as we entered I felt my heart sink and pick up pace. Looking me right in the face was Cal. Oh, no. I don’t like this. All of a sudden my grandmother burst through the group.
“Calvin! How are you?” Oh, shit. This is not good.
“Mom, mom, it’s Cal. Cal is eating with us. I have to go.”
“What? Oh, my gosh. How are you going to be able to back out of this one?”
“I don’t know. She’s your mother. Do something please.” I begged her.
“Ok, go tell your dad and take Carson.” I took Carson from my mother’s arms and walked towards my dad who was sitting at the bar.
“Hey, Daddy, Grandmother, brought Cal to dinner.”
“What?! That son of a bitch.”
“Daddy, stay calm, Mom is trying to take care of it.”
“I’m sorry sweetheart. I just don’t like him. Here comes your mom now.”
