Luna Ellington was about the age of twelve when the fire took place. Her real parents had died when she was only an infant. Luna was taken in by loving adoptive parents; Mr. and Mrs. Quagmire. they already had three children of their own, Isadora, Duncan and Quigley Quagmire (they were triplets). The night of the fire Luna and Quigley were stuck down this secret tunnel, while Duncan and Isadora managed to get out. But sadly Mr. and Mrs. Quagmire didn't make it out. Luna slowly lifted the cover as ashes came toward the orphans, she stepped out and Quigley came up right after, their home was gone.
They walked down back into the secret passageway, walking down looking at the signs, "Montgomery, Baudelaire, Denouement, Widdershins ... Quagmire," said Luna, "and, Ellington." Quigley finished, even though they weren't real siblings they could still finish each other's sentences. "Why would there be tunnels to my 'house' and yours?" Luna asked, "I don't know." Quigley said biting his lip. His hand reached into his pocket bringing out a little purple book and he started to map out the area. Quigley used the notebook to practice his cartography. "This is no time to map out the place!" Luna said, "Let's go to my house!" she grabbed Quigley's hand as she ran down toward the 'Ellington' sign. Though both of them thought their parents and siblings were alive and well waiting for them, they were wrong. Luna and Quigley climbed out but there was no Ellington mansion anymore just a pile of ashes and broken-down walls. The newsboy rings the bell on his bike and drops a newspaper on the ashes. Luna had some tears in her eyes but didn't let them out, "What's this?" she said as she picked up the paper from the ashes.
THE QUAGMIRE MANSION DESTROYED IN MYSTERIOUS FIRE: MR. AND MRS. QUAGMIRE ALONG WITH QUIGLEY AND ADOPTED DAUGHTER LUNA PERISHED. DUNCAN AND ISADORA SAFE AT PROFROCK PREPARATORY SCHOOL GETTING SPLENDID EDUCATION!
"Misinformation," Quigley said as Luna started crying. "Yes, we are alive but Mom and Dad!" She said sobbing and pointing to the paper. Quigley looked up at her and gave her a hug, as small portions of tears rolled down his cheeks. Quigley turned over the paper;
BAUDELAIRE ORPHANS, VIOLET, KLAUS, AND SUNNY ARE NOW STAYING AT A FAMOUS ACTORS HOUSE, COUNT OMAR!
"The Baudelaires," Luna said as she wiped her face with her hand. "Isn't that the name from the passage?" She asked, "Yes, it is!" Quigley replied, "This is all connected somehow." Luna said Quigley nodded his head. "Is that you!" A mysterious voice shouted, "Is that Luna Ellington and Quigley Quagmire!" Luna and Quigley looked straight at each other and both thought, 'who is that?'.
