Chapter 7 Case Not Closed

When we got back to our neighbourhood, the first thing I noticed was the cop car parked behind my dads car and I started to freak out a little bit.

Skyler pulled up into his carport and I practically jumped out of the car. I ran over to my house and up the ramp as fast as I could. I got into the house and found my dad and James sitting on the couch across from two detectives, I recognized them but I couldn't put names to their faces.

"Alexander do you remember Detectives Margo and Pitts? They were

assigned your mother's case..." My dad spoke up and the two detectives

stood.

"You've grown up quite a bit since the last time we saw you," Detective

Margo held out her hand for me to shake. "we have new information about the man behind your mother's death, we thought it would be a good idea to tell you in person." she looked over at her partner and nodded her head.

"Alexander you're in danger." Detective Pitts said. "The man who killed your mother is coming after you next, he has been in hiding for the past 8 years and now he's coming back to finish what he started."

"Hold on, wasn't the case confirmed it was just a random act of violence?" I was so confused at this point, these detectives show up telling me that the guy who killed my mother was still out there and coming for me now, how was I supposed to react? I jumped when someone put their arm around my waist then snapped my head around to see who it was, and almost hit Skyler with my face.

"Calm down love, it's just me, is everything okay?" Skyler hugged me

close and made me feel a little relief from the anxiety that was starting to

build up in my chest.

"Yeah I'll be okay" I said then gave him a small peck on the lips. When I

looked up everyone in the room had huge grins on their faces. "What?"

"You guys are a really cute couple" Detective Margo said to us and it

made both Skyler and I blush.

Skyler smiled and thanked detective margo then kissed me again. The

detectives finished talking to my dad and Detective pitts gave me his card,

telling me to call if I needed anything or if I was in any trouble. Dad and I

thanked them then they left, leaving dad, James, Skyler, and I sitting in the living room. The first to talk was James.

"so," he clapped his hands together. "who wants dinner?"

A little bit later while dad and James were making dinner, Skyler and I sat in my room playing Call Of Duty Modern Warfare. I felt my phone go off by my side, I picked it up, unlocking it and checked the new message. I didn't recognise the number and I was kind of confused when I was sent a photo of an old picture of me and my mother.

​Skyler had paused the game, looked over to ask what the deal was but

quickly set his controller down when he saw how distressed I was.

"What's going on?" He questioned. I just shook my head and got up.

Skyler followed me down the hall and into the kitchen where dad stood; Ididn't say anything, I just showed him my phone and waited for his

response.

"We need to have the detectives trace this number, I'll call them in a little bit, just leave your phone with me and we'll see if they text again."

My dad stayed calm and took my phone from me, which I wasn't too bothered by because I didn't want anyone or anything to interrupt mine and Skyler's time together.

Days later the detectives contacted us; they told us the phone number

was untraceable, as whoever it was had bought a burner phone and

downloaded an app that allowed the number to bounce off multiple cell

towers at once. I still received death threats and it only got worse, I even

went as far as getting a new number to try to stop the harassment, but to

no avail.

Skyler and I went to a park figuring it would be safe enough after a few

days had passed. We were walking through a small grove by a creek when I heard a loud thump behind me, I turned just before I felt someone cover my mouth with a rag. The last thing I saw before blacking out was skyler crumpled up on the ground.
