Hal followed everyone else to a room that looked exactly like all the other rooms. White walls with lines of green light drawing across the top and bottom of the walls. This room also had desks and chairs, like a classroom. An alien man bird stood in the front of the room.

"My name is Norchavius. I am a Green Lantern from Gra'var, taken from Sector 0026 to teach the history of the Corps to new recruits."

Hal could tell that the alien meant business.

"I will be teaching you all about the Corps and those rings that most of you have lazily stashed in your pockets," Norchavius continued. "Please take a seat."

Hal dug the ring out of his pocket and put it on the desk beside B'Shi's. He sat down.

"You have either been chosen as a new lantern by chance and taken here, been brought to the Corps by ancestry, or you were chosen as the successor to a dying alien," Norchavius glanced at Hal.

Hal figured he was the only one here due to the third circumstance. The ring or the alien, whichever was in control, would've picked someone better than Hal. Certainly not a human.

"This class, I will tell you about where you are," Norchavius started the lesson. "This is Oa. Oa is  a planet that lies in the center of the universe. It is the only satellite in it's star system, Sto-Oa. Sto-Oa is the primary star of Sector 0. I will explain the Sectors further soon."

Hal breathed out a sigh of relief. He thought he was the only one that had no idea what a 'Sector' was. He looked around to see that B'Shi and many others were as confused as he. A couple of aliens in the back had their heads down on the desk looking bored, as if they heard this every day.

"Oa is home to the Guardians of the Universe and also the headquarters of the Green Lantern Corps. The Guardians of the Universe are the immortal creators and leaders of the Green Lantern Corps. They give each Corps member a green power ring. Sergeant Kilowog will tell you more about those next class," Norchavius explained.

Hal was nervous about seeing Kilowog again. He seemed like an alien that would kill Hal if he put one toe out of line.

"You have already met one of the Guardians. Ganthet. Ganthet has one of the best personalities of the Guardians. He is nice and friendly rather than being stern 'by-the-book' like other Guardians," Norchavius said. "The Guardians of the Universe's goal is to bring peace to the universe, whatever it takes. The Corps is their peacekeeping force. However, we are not the first. The Guardians have attempted to create a peacekeeping force before, the Manhunters and the Third Army. Both ultimately failed."

"Okay, that is all for today, class. You will make your way to Kilowog's class as soon as you finish lunch."

Hal got up and turned to leave, when someone grabbed his armed. He turned to find Norchavius staring at him closely.

"Hal Jordan?" he asked.

"Oh, yes?"

"The first human Corps member. Congratulations."

"Um... thank you..." Hal wasn't expecting that.

"Find friends that you can trust. There are people that don't want a human in the Corps. They think that humanity is a weakness," Norchavius explained.

"Oh," Hal said dumbly and turned towards the door.

"And Hal?" Norchavius called.

Hal looked back.

"Prove them wrong."

Hal smiled to himself and headed out the door to find B'Shi waiting for him.

"What took you so long?" she asked. "Come on, let's get something to eat."
