She opened her eyes slowly, blinking up at the ceiling for a long minute. Her head was pounding and the ceiling she was staring up at didn't look familiar. Slowly she glanced around the room.

Wood paneling for the walls and across the ceiling along with thick wooden beams and a ceiling fan spinning slowly above her. Her eyelids felt heavy and she wanted nothing more than to burrow into the blankets and sleep.

Then she remembered what happened and where she was.

The last thing she remembered was watching a man shoot her boss in the head in the parking lot at work. She sat up quickly in the bed her head pounding more.

She felt fine other than a headache and glancing down she saw all the clothes were intact. If she had been raped she assumed she would know but nothing hurt or felt wrong.

The room was tiny in size and the bed she was sitting on was a large king size with a wooden headboard and four wooden posts. The floor was hardwood and other than a small stand next to the bed there was no other furniture in the room.

She opened the drawer on the tiny stand but it was empty, opening the first door she found an empty closet. Biting back a curse she moved to the small window, glancing out she saw nothing but rolling mountains and she had no idea where she was, or if she was even still in the same state.

She pulled on the window but a part of her knew it was probably secured. It didn't even budge and smashing it would only alert whoever had taken her

to her escape.

She hurried across the floor being as quiet as possible to the door, she pulled it open slowly looking out into the rest of the cabin.

A large open room served for most of the living quarters and impressive, over the top kitchen to her right and the massive living room to her left. A large fireplace stood at the far left wall and the two rooms were separated by a high granite bar.

The one wall was entirely floor to ceiling windows and a small spiral staircase led to what looked like an office loft. A small room that she guessed to be a bathroom was directly beneath it. There was no sign of the man who brought her here.

She hurried through the rooms not taking time to admire how decadent it was for a cabin. As soon as she stepped outside she heard a noise and whipped her head in the direction it came from.

The man who kidnapped her stood just yards away, chopping wood with a large ax. His black hair was wet with sweat and he had a large scar running from his hairline to below his lips. His black t-shirt hugged his muscular chest and arms and she could see tattoos covering his arms. His jeans were snug and several chains hung off one side.

He saw her and froze mid-swing, his brown eyes meeting hers.

"Wait." He said softly.

He took a step towards her and she let out a small whimper before turning and running away. She didn't know where she was, where she was headed or where she was going but she pushed on.

The terrain of the mountains made running in her heels next to impossible, the ground was uneven and riddled with stones, sticks, and logs. Tall trees surrounded her.

"Wait! Just wait!" He called from not far behind.

She turned a sharp left, noticing the ground sloped downward in this direction and hoping it took her down from the mountain.

"Don't go that way!" He yelled.

Suddenly he grabbed her arm, catching her by surprise and giving a firm yank. She slid in the dirt and then realized how close she was to running off the edge of a high drop.

He pulled her back and she stumbled trying to pull free, one of her shoes falling off.

"Stop fighting me, calm down." He ordered.

"Help me! Someone, please! Help me!" She cried pulling harder on her arm.

"Nobody can hear you, you're miles from anyone else."

"Please let me go. Don't hurt me." She begged.

"If I wanted to hurt you I would have already."

She gave another strong but ultimately futile pull trying in vain to get away but he had an iron grip on her upper arm.

"You can't just run off, it's dangerous if you don't know the terrain. You could fall and break your neck."

She glanced over her shoulder at the drop she had almost tumbled down. It was at least thirty feet and would have seriously hurt her at the very least. Glancing around she saw nothing but wilderness.

"Come on," He said firmly giving her arm a tug.

She fell silent but quite resisting and let him guide her through the woods. She couldn't do much running in her high heels and skirt in this kind of environment.

He let her pull on her shoe before leading her back to the cabin, she saw it from outside it was large and actually really nice. Near where he had been chopping wood a black car sat and a blue truck, either one could be an escape vehicle.

The cabin sat near another steep drop with only a thin dirt road winding away from it in one direction. She eyed the vehicles again as he led her to the front door.

"Don't even think about taking one, I have the keys with me at all times."He said.

"Look, you can just blindfold me and take me somewhere and let me there."

"I think we both know I can't do that."

"I don't know anything about you, I don't even know where this place is or how I got here." She offered.

He led her inside and back to the room she had already woke up in. Once they stepped into the room he released her and she moved as far away as possible rubbing her arm where his grip had bruised her.

"I'm sorry I don't do this, I've never kidnapped anyone it's just until I decide what to do with you." He said.

She shivered involuntarily knowing that he meant until he decided how to kill her.

"You just murder people?" She asked softly, remembering Harold.

"Yes, but you weren't part of the plan. I was told he would be alone."

"I worked late."

"I'm going to start a fire and then I'll get you something to eat. If you try and escape again I will shoot you."

She closed her eyes, wrapping her arms around herself for strength more than anything.

"The windows are bulletproof...don't waste your energy." He said.

He turned and exited the room slamming the door behind him and she jumped at the sound before sinking to the floor and letting out a choked sob.

She was going to die here and she didn't know why or who he was, her parents would never know what happened to her, they'd probably never find her body.

She curled into a small ball on the oriental looking rug and cried until sleep finally overtook her and her pounding headache eased.
