When he woke up she was already in the kitchen brewing coffee, he hated to admit it was refreshing to not be alone day in and day out.
"What do you have planned for today?" She asked as he sipped his own coffee.
"I need to go hunting, get us some more food while the weather is decent. Do you want to come?" He offered.
"No...I don't think I can watch you kill an animal," She said with a shrug.
"You promise you won't leave?"
"I won't go anywhere," she said.
"Good, I have enough to worry about without thinking you'll take off again."
"If I was so desperate I could have let you die and then taken a vehicle," She pointed out.
"Okay, I'll only be gone a few hours. I'll be back before dark."
He poured his coffee into a large thermos and then took it with him, heading out into the snow and mountains.
She glanced around the empty cabin, looking for something to keep herself busy in the next few hours he would be gone.
She busied herself by cleaning ever space of the cabin, scrubbing floors, counters and windows. She found extra sheets in a closet and changed the sheets on the bed and then began dusting.
He had been gone a few hours when he opened the door and stepped inside, he was covered in snow as he stomped his boots on the rug.
"Any luck?" She asked from the kitchen.
"Yeah, I got enough meat to last awhile. I can clean it after dinner."
"That's good...I guess," She said with a small laugh.
He slipped out of his boots and jacket before walking into the kitchen area with her and washing his hands.
"This place looks great, it's been a long time since it was cleaned this good."
"Not really anything else for me to do," She said with a shrug.
He watched her put away the cleaning supplies and then begin pulling items from the fridge to make dinner.
"I was thinking..."He started.
"Yeah?"
"Maybe...next time I hike to the mountaintop you'd...like to call your folks."
"You would do that?" She asked, hope blooming in her blue eyes.
"Yeah, if you don't tell them about me."
"I won't, I promise."
He watched her a second and then gave a small nod, seeming to believe her. Even if she did tell her parents about him what good would it do? She knew nothing about him or where she was being kept.
"Did you make dinner?" He asked.
"Of course."
He watched her reach into the oven and produce a hearty looking chicken noodle soup, she offered him a small smile as she moved to the table and something constricted painfully in his chest.
He had been alone for so long he had nearly forgotten what it was like to come home to someone.
"I made homemade bread too," She called over her shoulder.
She turned to go back for the bread and ran into his hard, muscular chest. Just as she looked up he framed her face with his large hands leaned down and kissed her.
She froze, her body going stiff and her hand flying to grip his wrist. Her heart began to hammer in her chest until it hurt.
He had to lean down to kiss her, he was so much taller than her, so much bigger. He could easily overpower her if he wanted to and the thought still frightened her.
He pulled away for a split second then took her lips with his again, gentler this time. Trying in vain to coax her into submission.
He finally pulled away when he realized that while she wasn't fighting she wasn't returning his kisses either.
"I'm sorry, I thought...it's just nice to come home and not be alone."
"You frighten me," She said simply.
"I know, I'm sorry. I wouldn't force you."
She blinked up at him for a minute then spoke.
"Won't you?"
"No."
She gave a small nod and then slowly stepped away, he felt her move away and a piece of him ached.
