The line out the exam hall was stretching across the corridor. Amara and her friends were a group of fluttering nerves; Amara's hand shook, Camilla bit her nails obsessively, Rose was chewing on a strand of her hair, and Gina stared blankly at the ground, waiting for it to swallow her up. Exam season was here!
"When are they going to let us in? The heat is getting through the window," complained Amara, fanning herself.
Summer was here in the cruelest form. The zealous sun was raging its heat at them. Instead of pleasant breeze and cold drinks, there was humid air and poofed up hair. Amara had to use more oil and curl cream than ever to tame the beast of her hair.
The days of chill but, gratifying spring weather left them with OWLs, the capture of Sirius Black and drenched shirts. Also, no more cozy sweaters. Amara loved being in cozy sweaters. So much for fun, fresh summer, thought Amara, bitterly.
"They better put some cooling charms in there! I cannot sweat while doing my exams! It's distracting. Not to mention, disgusting," cringed Camilla, pulling the back of her shirt from sticking to her back.
"I think I am going to faint," Rose said, perched on the floor, legs folded.
"WATER! WATER! DOES ANYONE WANT WATER?" A voice called out, causing a ripple of relief amongst the 5th years.
James was levitating three boxes of water bottles. Peter, alongside him, was launching water bottles at those who raised their hands. When they paraded to where Amara and her friends stood, they threw water bottles. Again, at Amara's face, right in the cheek. "James, come on!" Amara rubbed her cheek, pouting.
Peter passed a bottle to Rose, personally. Amara's eyes watched them. Peter smiled at Rose in the sweetest way possible. Their hands brushed in the most obvious way. Amara shook her head, grinning. She exchanged knowing looks with Camilla and Gina. Camilla smirked back. While Gina shrugged.
"I already knew."
Flabbergasted, Amara and Camilla turned to Gina. The triumph was splattered across Gina's face. "We were best friends before we joined up with you two remember?" A smile tugged at the corners of her chapped lips.

Shyly locking arms with Camilla, Amara walked into her Charms class. Exhilaration flowed from head to toe. This was her first class to learn all the charms which her father and Madeline knew! She clutched her brand new wand, smiling.
Camilla, her new friend, was sitting next to her. She was hopping in her seat. Crinkles appeared at her eyes as she grinned. She mumbled to Amara. "This is bloody exciting! I want to learn all the spells which exist!"
"Me too!" Amara giggled.
"PUT HER DOWN!" A high-pitched voice screamed.
Amara turned her head towards the ruckus. A group of Gryffindors and Ravenclaws huddled at the back of the class. A Ravenclaw girl was floating midair, covering her face as she was waiting for it to finish. Her black hair obscured her face as it moved around with her.
Camilla elbowed her way through the crowd, with Amara behind her. Amara bumped into a tall Gryffindor boy. She stared up to see a freckled face. "Sorry!" She said. The boy shrugged it off.
Another girl with blonde hair was screaming at a lone boy. Her blue eyes were charged with anger. The brunette boy laughed as he waved his wand. How could he know any spell? thought Amara.
"Put her down you brute!" Camilla shouted, watching in horror as he made the floating girl spin fast.
Enjoying the reaction, he just made the girl spin more quickly.
